Pure talent. It’s Youth Week WA the perfect time to shout out the young bands who blew us away on the Casa Musica stage for Powerhouse.
Powerhouse was a brand new event for Perth Festival 2026 – the idea came from Birdland's Oscar Cvitan – a night of emerging homegrown bands with members from ages 16 - 25.
Alongside his band @_birdland_band (featuring his fellow triplets Conrad and Francis), Powerhouse was an epic night by the river featuring a lineup of @shorehaven.band , @calicocityband , and @3fifteen_theband .

Åkervinda explore the mysticism, beauty, and rawness of Nordic folk songs. On stage and through their music they offer a space for reflection and connection — a sonic remedy for the heaviness of the world, where ancient melodies become timeless expressions of the human experience.
Fun fact: they are named for a Swedish wildflower whose roots seeped far and wide underground.

Good news story! Jaha Koo, creator of the wonderful work ‘Haribo Kimchi’ (Perth Festival 2026) has won the International Ibsen Award for ‘his innovative and deeply human theatre.’ 💛
This prestigious award is the world’s largest theatre prize and often referred to as the Nobel Prize of theatre.
'The theatre he creates is quiet, yet deeply political. It cuts through ideological noise and speaks directly to our shared human experience,' says Ingrid Lorentzen, chair of the jury for the International Ibsen Award and artistic director of the Norwegian National Ballet.
