Sa pratique croise librement des disciplines aussi diverses que l’histoire politique, l’histoire des expositions, l’anthropologie et le design. Diplômé de la Sorbonne, de la Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR), de l’École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (ECAL) et de l’Université de Western Cape (UWC), Ange-Frédéric a été lauréat du prix FOAM 2022 (Amsterdam) et nommé Art Critic / Curator Laureate 2026 par l’ADIAF. Il a été résident au Zeitz MOCAA (Cape Town) en 2022, résident Black Rock Sénégal en 2024 et résident à la Fondation Zinsou (Ouidah) en 2025. En 2025, il assure le commissariat de FANON antinomies à Something Art Space (Abidjan). Ange-Frédéric Koffi accompagne la BPM - Biennale de la Photographie de Mulhouse depuis 2016, notamment pour la programmation durant les Photobook days. Danser l’Histoire Avril 1966. L’Ensemble National du Cameroun se produit au Festival Mondial des Arts Nègres de Dakar. Adama Sylla capte l’instant. Ces images sont conservées à Saint-Louis pendant près de soixante ans, jamais montrées publiquement. Aujourd’hui, pour la première fois, elles sortent des archives. Aujourd’hui, elles sortent de l’ombre. Ces photographies inédites présentées pour la première fois sont en dialogue avec Chantal Edie et Zacharie Ngnogue qui puisent dans leurs propres archives pour répondre à Sylla. Une conversation entre la scène institutionnelle de 1966 et les pratiques de transmission aujourd’hui se dessine. A graduate of Sorbonne – Paris 1 University (FR), Haute école des arts du Rhin (FR), and École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (CH), he also holds a degree in History from UWC University of the Western Cape (ZA). Member of ILLE laboratory, University of Haute-Alsace (FR), his curatorial practice examines image regimes and historical narratives in postcolonial contexts, considering the exhibition as a critical space. He has curated ‘FANON antinomies’, Abidjan (CI) in 2025, ‘Mécanique poétique – Adama Sylla’ in 2023-26, and ‘I Was Here - I Saw Here’, Mulhouse (FR) in 2020. His research has been published in Médiévales and Kronos, and presented at international conferences. On the Vastness of our Identities at Les Rencontres d’Arles 2024! I am thrilled to announce this exhibition on contemporary Afro-European positions! Monika Ribeiro, MAryam Touzani, Ange-Frédéric Koffi, Delali Ayivi and I have been working on this exhibition over the past few months. We talked a lot, not only with each other but also with many people, such as Anja Saleh, who has written wonderful texts for our exhibition catalog. It will be a pleasure for us to celebrate the exhibition’s opening with you during this year’s Les Rencontres d’Arles. It is therefore also the first exhibition of the Afro-European network Institute Contemporary, which aims to connect and represent artists with Afro-European relations.
