Who’s pushing the boundaries of what professional networking and collaboration look like in K12 education? When they said ā€œopening act,ā€ I thought they were joking. Last night, I stood on stage at @elevatetechca Toronto and looked out at close to 2,800 people. I had just 3 minutes to explain why teacher collaboration could transform education. Right after me on the same stage? Tops execs from the likes of @openai @kidshelpphone @td_canada @techcrunch @accenture @foxnews And @simuliu - THE Canadian legend, @avengers @cbcdragon šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Just me and some of the biggest names in tech and innovation. Cool cool cool. Oh, and I flubbed part of it! But the crowd smiled, and I survived. This experience reminded me that the best moments are the human ones, and we’re all just trying to explain complex ideas in ways that make people care. And caring is a REALLY big part of what I’m setting out to do. I left teaching middle school not because I stopped loving it or believing in my impact in that role, but because I believe in education so much that I’m building tools to help every teacher be a powerhouse at way less of the personal expense they’re paying right now. People in the education system get what I’m trying to do pretty quickly. Kids and partners of teachers get it. Parents usually tell me a horror story from their kid’s school, and then it all clicks. It’s the people in these spaces- CEOs, founders, investors, partners of some of the biggest companies that influence our daily lives- that need to care. And I think (and hope) I accomplished that mission last night. Huge gratitude to @dobsoncentre @yspaceyu @innovationfactory_if @sheboot_ for the 100+ hours spent helping me feel confident enough in myself and my business so that I could stand proudly on the stage, and just be thrilled to have this opportunity. Needless to say, I am one super proud gal ā˜ŗļø -Ariella, CEO @colab.ed

šŸš€ Last week, 40+ educators from @ashburycollege , @bayviewglen_toronto , @greenwoodcollegeschool , @htsrichmondhill @pickering.college @standrewscollege1899 @sjr_school are coming together for something truly special - our founding AI Leadership Professional Learning Community. The story behind this launch: These schools recognized what many educational communities are experiencing. While there’s incredible potential for building AI capacity across schools, meaningful connections were happening sporadically - maybe at conferences or through informal conversations here and there. What emerged from countless conversations: šŸ« School leaders seeing AI as a critical area needing a thoughtful, informed approach šŸ¤ Educators hungry for perspectives, case studies, and real-world examples āš–ļø Genuine questions about ethical considerations and responsible implementation šŸ“ˆ Understanding that building AI capacity = creating equitable opportunities for all students and staff The impact these schools are driving: When educators feel confident and informed about AI, they make better decisions about how and when to integrate these tools in ways that enhance meaningful learning. This isn’t about technology for technology’s sake - it’s about ensuring every student has access to educators who can navigate our rapidly changing world with wisdom and intention. What’s inspiring us: The enthusiasm and engagement fromthis cohort demonstrates something we’re seeing everywhere - educators don’t just want AI training, they want to build lasting capacity within their school communities. They want to learn together, share challenges and successes, and create sustainable approaches that honor their educational values. Stay tuned for more updates from our cohort! šŸ‘€ Interested in learning more or launching your own cohort? We got to do one of our favorite things...talk with pre-service teachers about building their professional learning networks!! Cammie invited me into her class at @mhcollege , and what happened next was magic šŸŖ„ These future educators took to CoLab to start reflecting on the best communities they’ve been part of. Hockey teams, dance studios, volunteer groups, judo clubs, you name it! They also identified exactly what made those communities work. Trust, shared purpose, learning from mistakes without shame, everyone lifting each other up. And yet, when they enter the profession, many will walk into schools where collaboration happens in stolen moments between classes, where the best resources stay trapped in individual classrooms, where expertise remains invisible because there’s no professional space to share it. To Cammie and educators like her who are preparing the next generation to collaborate, not just teach- thank you. This is what will create the systems change needed to keep educators and students thriving šŸ’š #TeacherCollaboration #EdTech #PreServiceTeachers #ProfessionalLearning #CoLabEducation
