The 8 Rules for High Carb Fueling ⬇️ 1. During purely easy training days under 1 hour, there is no need to take mid-exercise carbs most of the time 2. On purely easy training days between 1 and 2 hours, 45-60 grams of carbs per hour is plenty, with exceptions we discuss in the video 3. On purely easy training days above 2 hours, 60-75+ grams of carbs per hour is ideal. The “+” is doing a lot of work there 😂 4. On easy/moderate long runs where the effort is not purely easy (like in an ultra), try to fuel at 75-90+ grams of carbs per hour no matter what the duration. It’s all about adaptation! 5. On moderate/hard training days (with Z3+ work) under 90 minutes, 60+ grams of carbs per hour is ideal. Top athletes are even fueling 1-hour half marathons! 6. On moderate/hard training days above 90 minutes, aim for 75-90+ grams of carbs per hour. Once you see the benefit, let’s get freaky with it in Step 7. 7. HERE IS WHERE THE REAL FUN STARTS. Once an athlete is experienced and finds benefit from 75-90 grams per hour, they can experiment with 105-120+ grams of carbs moderate/hard training days above 90 minutes and easy/moderate training days above 2 hours. Very high numbers depend on many factors, including body size and raw power. The high carb funnel narrows a lot above 90 g per hour, but almost every athlete can start at 75 g per hour. 8. In races, apply the lessons learned in Guidelines Six and Seven to determine carb intake, trying to max out totals (while doing gut training). The high carb performance revolution comes from lots of training What we used to think was an endurance limitation was often just a fueling limitation. The new video is about taking away those limits. Let’s give away all of the secrets! 💜🧡💚 Directed by @codybare_ 💪 Made possible by @thefeed @runjanji @wahoofitnessofficial 🙏

🚨FULL CIRCLE, the Javelina 100 Mile documentary, releases tomorrow at 3 PM ET 🧡 To be real: I’m self conscious about this one. You’ll see me get vulnerable and go to places I wasn’t sure I could go. But I guess that’s what ultras are about! Director @codybare_ created something beautiful (and I know it’s good because it makes me uncomfortable 😂). Check it out tomorrow! P.S. it’s a full hour, so you can use it for your indoor training!

It’s been 2 weeks since my first film “Nothing to Lose: The Leadville 100 Course Record” was released into the wild! Having several weeks to put this together was a first for me, and it was great to not feel rushed. But it also gave me time to overthink things. When you sit down with multiple hours of footage, a big story to tell, and lots of time to work on it, there are endless possibilities for what the final product (and each scene) could look like. That can be overwhelming if you think about it too much. So I didn’t! I just started doing the thing. I experimented a lot, and gave myself room to try things that I ended up deleting. And it made the process so much fun! There will always be things I could’ve done better, but getting to put this together was literally a dream come true ❤️ Obviously it helps a ton to have the full support of people like @bayhataway @mountainroche @drmeganroche (+ amazing brands) who see the first drafts, uplift my creative choices, and tell me when I’ve gone too far (or not far enough). This was a team effort 🫶 I got to re-live this magical day A LOT. So once the work was done and I was able to take a step back from obsessing over every detail, it was fun to go back and pick out some of my favorite moments from the day that might not have been posted here yet. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you watch the film if you haven’t yet :)

Tomorrow I get to attempt a route that I’ve wanted to run for a really long time: The Mt. Whitney Double Summit from Lone Pine. It’s a 90ish mile double out & back with about 22,000 ft of gain and descent, half on road, half on trail, summiting the highest point in the lower 48 twice. To my knowledge, @yellowrunner is the only person who has ever completed this route. When I saw it documented in her film “Choose Strong”  (incredible work @drewbdarby @tylermccain ) back in 2022, I was immediately captivated by it, and I had just barely started trail running at that point. This year, I felt ready for the big one. But I needed a permit. I put in for the lottery, and happened to get a permit for the exact day that Sally completed the route. September 29th. This became my “A” goal for the year, and I’ve never enjoyed training more than I did this summer/fall. I was fortunate enough to run Mt. Elbert x 2, Mt. Massive x 1.5, the Pawnee-Buchanan Loop, the Boulder Skyline, Green Mountain, and lots of miles on the Colorado Trail. I guess I’m just really happy to be in this beautiful place on the precipice of a big adventure I’ve wanted to do for years, feeling happy, healthy, and ready to give it my best. I’m not sure what awaits me up there, but I will welcome it.  Follow along on my story for updates starting at 4 am PT (thanks to the amazing @bayhataway (who also took these great pics)) ❤️

For 19 years, the Leadville 100 Mile course record had been considered one of the most iconic records in ultrarunning. In 2024, I shocked myself to beat the record by 16 minutes. The win changed my life and went on to be named Trail and Ultra Performance of the Year. In 2025, we’re running it back. “Nothing To Lose” is the full documentary about what happens after an athlete hits rock bottom, and what might be waiting on the other side. Even knowing what happened, part of me still thinks it was a 1 in 10,000 day. This film tells the behind-the-scenes, totally raw story of a day that feels impossible. Directed and Edited by @codybare_ 🧡 Made possible with support from: @thefeedme (every nutrition product you need at the lowest prices by far, and high-carb fueling explains 95% of my recent success) @wahoofitnessofficial (The KICKR RUN Treadmill is the best training tool ever invented, and I never would have had this day without it) @runjanji (This gear gives you wings and lasts forever. We’re in our Janji orange era) We love you all! THANK YOU! 🧡💜💙❤️

🚨WORLD PREMIERE of the Leadville 100 documentary “Nothing To Lose” will be this Thursday, September 25 at 3 PM ET!🚨 I would normally cringe writing “world premiere,” but Director @codybare_ created a film that is so special. “Nothing To Lose” tells the story of hitting rock bottom as an athlete, and what might be waiting on the other side. It’s an hour of lows and highs, humor and tears, and some of the most beautiful trail shots I have ever seen. I can’t wait for you to see it! We have so much love and appreciation for you all. THANK YOU 🙏🧡

To be honest, part of me is both scared and embarrassed to be sharing this video. It’s like watching a bad dream, seeing myself make decisions with a brain that wasn’t my own. What I have realized since the race is that it was my own brain all along. It just took the stress of race day for my unresolved issues to come out in such a strange and unexpected ways. I never fully processed the bike crash last year. I never took the time to slow down and understand how life with 2 kids who I love so much might cause my brain to panic at the worst moment. I didn’t do the work to understand what might happen when crap hit the fan. I also realize that it’s quite funny to have a video series about trying to win a race that ends with an anxiety attack at mile 62. It’s like making a video about a 6-month quest to dunk, and then failing to touch the net 😂 I will support and accept any roasting in the comments. Since the race, I have started therapy. Megan, Leo, Ollie, and I have had some of the best times ever. I’m back to training, and I’m laughing at it all now that the tears have dried up. I never knew how this chapter of the story would end. But if you told me 6 months ago that the eventual lesson would be about failure, vulnerability, and the importance of mental health, I think I’d be ok with that, as long as it was also funny. Well, I think it’s objectively hilarious. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. “Breakable” is out now! Director @codybare_ did such an awesome job on this series, and there will be more videos ahead (we hope). @thefeedme is the most wonderful partner, and they have changed the game across endurance sports. And most of all, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. I hope this series combined with the unwritten chapters ahead show that there is nothing to fear on the other end of failure. Own it, learn from it, laugh at it, and then scream F*** IT, WE BALL as you chase new scary goals 🔥🦖
