It’s intended as an uplifting collection of songs about things to be grateful for, things that spark joy, or growing through challenges; it’s basically an obnoxiously positive record. It’s taken me 3 albums to work out why I ever started writing and singing songs in the first place, when I’d originally intended to just be a drummer playing other peoples’ music. The reality is as simple as that childlike desire to just do something that brings me happiness; that’s why you first pick up a musical instrument, pen, hobby, sport, whatever, back when you’re an enthusiastic kid. I think I forgot all that in the time since I started doing Hilang Child, having been through the ups and downs of what it means to do music as a “career”. This album is I guess my rediscovering of that joy without the strings or expectations attached, and just an homage to the things that make you happy to be alive. If you end up giving it a listen I hope that the positivity intended comes across to you too.
