Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City

A fantastic night of Chamber Music at the University of Utah Libby Gardner Hall featuring the internationally recognized Esmé Quartet. While I could recount all the awards the ensemble has received in their 10 year existence I’ll just say it’s all deserved. They opened with Joseph Haydn- String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 76, no. 4 a strong moving piece that really showed the command of timing and the skill required performing an intricate musical work of art. The second number was the exciting Maurice Ravel- String Quartet in F major in which the second movement showcases some very intricate, beautiful, pizzicato. After an intermission to think about what we had just heard and witnessed, the evening ended with the beautiful, haunting, yet lively Franz Schubert- String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810, “Death and the Maiden”. The ending section was a tour de force of performance speed and clarity. The group was outstanding! I call it “effortless” in thier performance perfection. Their playing was kinesthetic not only did they move together as a living being creating beautiful music but I was connected to them in the musical journey, enjoying every note, every silence, every pull of the bow, every sway of the body. I wish every human being could’ve experienced this music with me. The arts are so important, yet sadly it does not get the love it deserves. We had so much fun attending @cmsofslc concert featuring @doverquartet !! They played Tchaikovsky’s string quartet No.1, “Strum” by Jessie Montgomery, and Marc-André Hamelin’s piano quintet. The performance was spectacular! It’s so fun to watch their interaction and communication through chamber music. They were super kind and answered so many of our questions after the concert. We admire these world-class musicians and it was such a privilege seeing them up close and personal! #cmsofslc #allantestringquartet
