Our May speaker for #cmCREATE is @joshuawills of @consumeandcreate ☀️ Joshua spends his days working as a graphic designer, thingmaker™, and Creative Director at Consume & Create™, a studio he co-founded in 2015 to explore the ways in which design can become a more objective practice driven by strategy and insights, best encapsulated by the studio’s mantra “We work with our hands (craft), using our head (insight) and heart (empathy).” Before the studio, Wills worked at an international ad agency and founded several hybrid businesses throughout Denver alongside his wife Tran Wills. Together they launched: @thefabriclab (DIY Fashion + Gallery), The Shoppe (cupcake + cereal bar that doubled as a design book store and art gallery), and Svper Ordinary which was a hybrid retail + art gallery concept that housed items for curated living located in the Rino Arts District. Regardless of where he’s working or whom he is working for, he sees design as an expressive language that is used to heighten connections and amplify communication. He’s usually not this serious. Release Day 2026, here we go! 🎆 I’ve honestly been working on the art for the next collection on and off for months. The album inspiration, the theme, the colors, even a lot of the typography… all done. The curse of being in brand marketing for so long is trying to prepare all the content before the story is even finished written. The cart has been fully leading the horse 😬 To break my endless cycles of adjustments I’m representing for @cm_boulder and releasing weekly progress updates in preparation to launch the next collection alongside my fellow creatives for @adobe #releaseday2026 What if we gave our personal creative projects a collective deadline? @creativemorning has teamed up with @adobe and @creative.quests on an entire month of practical tips and accountability sessions leading up to May 29th when every chapter will come together to RELEASE ALL THE THINGS, no matter how imperfect or polished they may be! As the main designer and social media manager for CM/Boulder, I spend the majority of my time transforming work made by other artists into a campaign of designs we post throughout the month. Now our community will get to see some of my own work come to life as we countdown to Release Day. My next collection the one I’m steadily working towards for #releaseday2026 is: Trippy Grooves 🍄 All of my official Good Afterneuen Goods collections are all inspired by music and the idea for this one came from Jimi Hendrix’s 1967 album Axis: Bold As Love. The Jimi Hendrix Experience is still my all time favorite, but Axis has a unique texture and flow that keeps me coming back for a listen on lazy Sunday mornings. The intro sets the perfect stage: “As we all know you can’t believe everything you see and hear, can you?” I’ve drawn up and started vectorizing no less than four different versions of this art since the beginning of 2026 and I just haven’t been able to settle on a style, so I finally sat down and pulled together a quick mood board to get myself on track. After going back and forth, I think I’ve finally decided to go for a vintage psychedelic rock poster vibe with earth tones and a whole lot of texture to give it a lived-in feel. I’m way more confident with flat work like what I did with the Face-Melting Jams art, so this is a super new and kinda intimidating process for me that I’m excited to see the end results of! I’m pushing myself to finally call it quits on the endless iterations next week, so I can move on to sharing a bit of the thinking that goes into how I chose the products for my collections. The warming embers of our collective creativity kept the snow at bay just long enough for our April #creativemornings event with Nancy Anderson of @sweetbirdstudio for #cmEMBER 🔥 Back home at @junkyardsocialclub we were delighted to welcome a new breakfast partner, the delicious @moxiebread_boulder while we jammed to the sweet guitar sounds of Brian Barrette for the last time before he moves away! We’ll miss your excellent choice of cover songs and the perpetual optimism you’ve brought to so many of our event, Brian! We know you’ll be a star wherever you land! Our vendor and 30-second pitch was the author of ‘Benjamin Breaking Barriers’, Malva Tarasewicz, a CM Boulder regular! She shared more about her book and life alongside her autistic son who has and continues to overcome obstacles and expectations with her as his greatest teacher and supporter. We heard a brief intermission from one of our attendees connecting the theme of rising from embers to astrological events and encouraging us all to get specific about manifesting our desires. It was the perfect segue to Nancy’s story of how choosing to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of what felt like certain failure became the bonfire that set her dreams ablaze and allowed her to live her life authentically as an artist. She shared a quote by @kalendionpoetry that felt so incredibly relevant: “You will rise from the ashes, but the burning comes first.
