new release on the Cloud Recordings @bandcamp page a name-your-price download of Michael G. Maxwell - Very Pleasing Orchestration of Library [data] /album/very-pleasing-orchestration-of-library-data "Very Pleasing Orchestration of Library [Data]" is a collaborative data sonification project between Michigan Technological University’s Library and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. This piece was created as a pilot digital scholarship project for Love Data Week 2026, and installed with visualizations in the Library’s Opie Reading Room from February 9th to February 14th, 2026. About the composition, Maxwell writes: "This piece and collaboration is about celebrating the faculty, staff, and patrons of the Van Pelt and Opie Library and the library's position as the heart of Michigan Technological University's campus." From one audience member at the opening reception, "It is like I am looking through the windows of the library watching everything that takes place throughout the day." Data sonification is a unique way to represent information, and showcases the dynamics of various datasets allowing listeners to interpret the data in a multitude of ways. new release by @robertschneider.e6 on the @cloudrecordings @bandcamp page: /album/switched-on-computer "NEW MUSIC FROM MATHEMATICS: Baroque and ambient automaton. I wrote an experimental computer program with my son to generate random baroque, ambient and drone compositions inspired by Wendy Carlos and David Cope. Switched-On Computer (SOC) is an open-source Python program that uses the rules of baroque counterpoint for two voices plus a few composition rules of my own, and an onboard synthesizer coded in collaboration with Max Schneider, to randomly generate very unusual classical music. SOC is a twentieth-century-style rules-based AI, not a modern generative AI. It outputs compositions ranging from wild video game music to soothing new age explorations in ancient musical scales.
