We got shushed on one stage because @clark_murphy264 has to yell at me for me to hear. On this one he had to repeat “STRAIGHT UP!” 4 times 😆 Vernal brings unique challenges like the moon dust. It caused Clark’s bipod to act up on this stage. He ended up having to take it apart and clean it later in the match. I think the hardest part of this match was getting accurate ranges on the targets. I was never quite sure if we had the right range. We dropped a couple points throughout the match from mis-ranging. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the new @apex_optics Synergy LRF binos when they come out. Edit: this is actually stage 12 not stage 18 @nrlhunter #nrlhunter #longrangeshooting #precisionrifle #precisionshooting

Not many people will post their worst stage. Stage 3 (popper stage) at the High Desert Hunter @nrlhunter match was an embarrassing one for @clark_murphy264 and me. The 4th target was very difficult to find and range. We fumbled on finding the targets and I rushed things and missed shots I should have made. We ended up dropping 9 points on just this one stage. Lessons learned! #nrlhunter #longrangeshooting #precisionrifle

We had a lot of great moments and a couple sucky ones. Overall though, we finished in 5th place, our best finish of the season so far! The High Desert Hunter @nrlhunter match ran by Eric and Olya Andersen of @blue_mountain_precision definitely had some tricks up its sleeve. Landmarking targets and getting an accurate range on the targets proved to be pretty difficult on a number of stages. Before and after each match @clark_murphy264 and I pick a couple things we want to improve on. Coming into the match I was focused on two main things: 1) not forcing a bad position and 2) when I break a clean shot and miss to make adjustments right away instead of sending a few more rounds before I decide it’s a good idea to adjust. Overall, I feel like I did really well with these two things this match. I have two things I’m focused on for next match: 1) building faster prone positions (crazy how this is probably my slowest position to shoot in) and 2) taking a deep breath and slowing down when in a time crunch. I notice when I feel time pressure I start hurrying and making dumb mistakes. Big thanks to all the sponsors for the match, particularly @sigsauerinc and @pure_precision_rifles . Clark and I picked up some awesome prizes from them. Can’t wait for the next one!

A coyote sized target at 850 yards proved to be quite the challenge at the Laramie WY @nrlhunter match this past weekend. Our initial wind call was wildly wrong. We thought the wind was going right to left, but it turns out it was going left to right and blowing much harder than we thought. Thankfully we corrected well after the first shot landed way to the right. The correct wind hold ended up being 1.5mils left. Then it became a race against the clock to get impacts from the other, not quite as solid positions along the tree. In the end we managed to tally up 9 points out of 16 on the stage, a bit higher than the field average for the match. 📸 @visual_aspen

Day two of the @nrlhunter Buffalo Bills Revenge in Laramie, WY was much more productive for @clintfix and I as a team. Great wind calls, communication, and fast target acquisition led to a few clean stage runs. The only disappointment for me was my triggercam pooped the bed the night before. This match was a challenge and an absolute blast to compete in. Definitely coming back next year, shout out to @longrangefossen for the solid execution as the MD. Also, a camo cerakote makes a @west_elk_precision rifle shoot better. Just wrapped up an @nrlhunter match in Laramie, WY. @longrangefossen and @mountain_sasquatch put on an incredible match. Definitely my new favorite venue. The match was tough. Gusty winds, hard positions, and some small targets definitely made it sporty. @clark_murphy264 and I managed to get 7th place. We (mostly me) had a few rough moments, but we pulled it together. We finished well enough to land us a both some nice prize table picks from @burrisoptics ! The real fun wasn't just the shooting, but getting to hang with an an awesome group of guys. The @wcps_club crew put on a strong showing at the match. Now to get ready for our next one in Vernal, UT in a few weeks! New barrel coming in from @west_elk_precision just in time for that one. Then after that a new stock coming from @foundation_stocks and new can from @tbac_suppressors .

Just took Duke on his last walk. Unfortunately we have to put him down this afternoon. I’m gonna miss him.

Shooting @nrlhunter matches is fun. Shooting it in the teams division with @clark_murphy264 is even better. This was our first match as a team. We did well, but made a handful of dumb mistakes that cost us a few too many points. What we did well: - We found targets very quickly. There was only one target the entire match we couldn't find. - We communicated well. - We were pretty good with our gear management and helping each other out. What could have gone better: - My zero was 2 tenths off for the first handful of stages. It wasn't obvious until we got to a stage with some small targets. That cost us quite a few points. - We picked a couple bad positions that cost us way too much time and a few dropped points. Big thanks @jaden_1_2 and @tedmiernicki . You guys put on a phenomenal match (except for the mud. Let's not do that next time). Now to get ready for the match in Laramie!
