Years and years ago I took a bit from the final fight of 2002’s Spider-Man (which remains one of my favorite movies) and used it as a way to study the page design/storytelling style/color/lettering/general craftsmanship of the Dark Knight Returns (one of my favorite comics). It was a really enlightening lesson! DKR is so focused in its storytelling but maintains a massive sense of scale. Endless things to learn from it, even 40 years on. She’s amazing!!! Her work is empathetic, beautiful, heart wrenching, and powerful, all in a way that brings me to a sort of heightened state of existence with each script. She’s a master. Up for best coloring- Jordie Bellaire!! Jordie!!! It’s JORDIE. She’s relentlessly inventive, impossibly kind, and talented beyond measure, friends. It’s remarkable. She’s remarkable. -up for best continuing series: The whole team!! Kelly and Jordie: covered. So… Becca Carey!! Oh my god, she letters everything to the point of beauty, y’all. The thoughtfulness/creativity is on full display at all times and shows through every page and panel. -@mattart91 ! Unreal! The painting he does, the cinematic drama, it’s in a league of its own and brings immense scope and emotion to every scene. It’s a joy to watch his process. -@matibergara ! The motion, dynamism, and raw cartooning power he brings is beautiful to behold. Each line has such sensitivity that translates right into the characters. The drawings live. @duss005 !! The life of li’l Diana is enhanced perfectly by the softness and lushness of his washes and linework. Breathing characters who love and care, and a tiny Diana full of compassion. @conroyforreal and Ash!! Editors extriaordinare! They are lazer focused and keep the life alive no matter what. Just learned that Nexus Mods users EitherSaucy and SpiderMatt2099 made a set of my BATMAN: DARK PATTERNS design as skins for ARKHAM KNIGHT They look completely spot on, particularly with that cell shading.
