MULBERRIES FOR SALE $4/HALF PINT
Today, May 14th at Koiner Farm, 5-7PM
There is a lot going on this Thursday at the farm (even though it is not Third Thursday yet)! Mimi will be selling Ethiopian food, Gulia @flowers_sourdough will have homemade bread for sale, and Maestro Zamora will be back playing guitar from 6-7pm! In addition to our regular produce, we will also be selling fresh local mulberries $4/half pint.
Come get your veggies, grab a bite, and bring a chair!
Turnips have a bad reputation, but salad turnips will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about this vegetable.
Spring is the best time for salad turnips. Since they prefer cool weather, they are sweet and juicy in the spring, and become sharper and more bitter in the hot summer.
Fresh, local salad turnips are so sweet and delicious that you can snack on them raw like an apple! You can also add them to salads, or roast them to bring out another layer of sweetness.
You can use every part of the turnip! Turnip greens can be used in place of mustard greens or collards, or you can add them to soups or stews.
Visit the Koiner Farmstand this Thursday, May 14th, from 5-7pm to purchase a bunch of fresh, locally-grown salad turnips!

Yesterday evening was a wonderful night of community as we hosted both the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Co-Op spring members meeting AND the Department of Environmental Protection for our community compost workshop and to introduce our new Compost Manager.
We even had a surprise guest, as Joe Himali of @bestaddress came for a visit and we happily shared everything we know and love about our favorite little farm.
Thank you everyone for making such a memorable night!

It’s the season for green onions!
The terms green onion, scallion, and spring onion all refer to various species in the genus Allium that lack a fully developed bulb. Although most varieties of green onion are immature onions harvested before a bulb forms, there are also varieties that never form a bulb (Allium fistulosum).
In addition to tasting delicious, green onions are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and vitamin K. The green shoots of a green onion have 100x more phytonutrients than the bulb of a white onion.
Green onions have found their way into many different dishes thanks to their mild and sweet onion taste. Add them to salads, mashed potatoes, fried rice, or scallion pancakes!
Want to add some green onions to your next dinner? Visit the Koiner Farmstand this Thursday, May 7th, from 5-7pm to purchase a bunch of fresh, locally-grown green onions!
