Before walking in, he’d crane his neck skyward and nod vigorously, peering at the stars. He seemed to be communing with something, someone. I’d stand there quietly like I was witnessing him pray. Once I broke the silence by asking what he was doing and he gave me an answer that he’d given me at other times when I’d ask about other mysterious behavior: “I’ll tell you when you’re older.” He never did. On May 6th, this fine group of artists will assemble for an evening of artisanal songcraft at @night_club_101 , and it also happens to be the NYC release show for Many Disappeared, Thin Lear’s sophomore album. For my folks in NY and NJ, I’m so excited to bring you the full-band live version of this upcoming record, and feel like we’re cooking up something really special for the evening. And this bill is bonkers. @theadamlytle ‘s latest record, Altars, is a gem of dark, striking sonics and lyrics, bringing to mind artists like Nick Cave, Scott Walker, and Leonard Cohen. And he’s got a glorious nylon string sound. @ciwk , beyond being the bassist in Office Culture, released one of my favorite albums of last year, A Hat Upon The Bed, which is the most poignant musical meditation on loss I’ve heard in a long while. And @damonisaacsmith writes stunning, inventive chord progressions and melodies, including the recent single “Pelican Sky,” all delivered with some pretty virtuoso piano playing, if you’ve ever watched him live. And his covers are second to none, as anyone who’s seen him here on IG can attest. Ticket link is in the bio and over at Night Club 101. 2025 in music: singing’s so much fun!

It was a great pleasure to exchange some questions with my man @adeline.hotel about our twin October releases - his “Watch the Sunflowers” on @ruinationrecordco and my “A Hat Upon the Bed” on @g.l.a.m.o.u.r.g.o.w.n.s . We chatted about making a lot of music, labels, and more. This is the first time the legendary GG questionnaire has been bilateral and I’m so glad Dan and I did it together. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m tremendously proud to share @andrewdalyfrank ’s debut album “Youre No Island” out today on @g.l.a.m.o.u.r.g.o.w.n.s . This album is so special and I am deeply grateful to my man for letting me release it. I’ve had the agonizing pleasure of sitting on these songs - as demos sent through text, then as works-in-progress, then as mixes and masters - for years now. I’ve always found them to be characteristic to Andrew: Vast, windswept, magical. Each brings me back to the singular feeling I got hearing Andrew nearly fifteen years ago as we split bills in now-defunct venues across Brooklyn. Onstage, he made notes hang in the air for longer than seemed possible, resonating so much that the little bar he was performing in felt like a wintry shore. That quietude is in all his music; in “You’re No Island” it is fleshed out as never before. His musical voice is intact and just as unique as it was then.
