Imposter Syndrome. I was so curious to ask Sir Roger Deakins and James Deakins this question. Roger is a two time Oscar winning cinematographer and the first cinematographer to be knighted. Their work has influenced generations of filmmakers and the mastery of storytelling and craftsmanship they've achieved is staggering. Is it possible to feel imposter syndrome working at this level? DP, friend and Cine Kit List member @fastforwardcreative invited me down to Mississippi a few months back to light a special project with legend of cinema Morgan Freeman. You never know what opportunities are going to come your way in this business; I immediately said yes, organized the Transit and drove 10 hours to spend a memorable weekend at @gzbluesclub in Clarksdale. And it was memorable! I pulled into town the moment the building across the street was burning to the ground, thick smoke rolling through the downtown streets. Gratefully, the hard working Clarksdale firefighters contained the blaze, Ground Zero was saved and the next day we set up with the voice of God himself. I wanted a new challenge on this one so I lit this project using ONLY @godox_global fixtures. Our main units were the full color F800R, F200SR LED mats and a set of six MS60Rs specials with various modifiers. That’s all we used! Everything you see in these frames came from @knowled_global units. Working with Matt was great. There was one moment on our 2nd day of shooting, when Morgan was sitting at the piano singing Easy (Like Sunday Morning) ON a Sunday morning for a smattering of crew while soft haze drifted through the dimly lit club and I remembered why I do this. I won’t ever forget the last thing Morgan said to me as we all said goodbye. But that’s a story for another post! First daylight tests with the new @godox_global Beamlight B60 on the 1000R. It's bright! 🔥🔥🔥 B60 is a lightweight, 5° parallel beam modifier that works with the 1000R's native Bowens Mount and can easily be carried and mounted by a single person. It works great paired with the @knowled_global 600R, 1000R or any Bowens fixtures. I think this will do especially well for productions that utilize cine reflectors. Ask me questions below! 👊🏼🎥⚡
