What a day yesterday was! Reflected on the fact that I just might’ve actually seen every high level surfer that’s graced the Shires shore have a go out front. Watched the late really great Willy Morris and Shaun Tomson (the 1st World Champ to surf Seal) absolutely demolish late afternoon chunky peaks back in the day. Sat on the berm just mesmerized how they approached it as a grom. Former SB local now North Shore resident Marty Thomas….should he count? Speed it up to the present - Kolohe, Jordy, Yadin, Kalani Robb, Simpo, Griffin, Kanoa…seen em all rip in. So getting to watch Kelly was pretty damn special even though he was a little late to the tube gluttony that went down all AM. Pretty sure he won’t be coming back after getting mobbed.🤣 Thanks @stephenisbelly for making it happen and @kellyslater for rocking up, being a gracious visitor not only in the line up but to all the stoked people who got to witness the sesh, posing for photos, signing autographs and hanging w the G.D.M.A. Neighbor network kids…Peeps are still buzzin. Any other upper level shredders gracing out front I may have missed?? Courtney Conlogue maybe? Who? Who?🦉🤔

@thevaughndaily ’s odometer rolls over for the 11th year today. From the ultimate 2nd - 4th grade shit grom to a complete U turn in 5th grade with perfect attendance and grades…. So very proud of you my boy. He’s embarking on his golf journey and 4th Summer at surf camp this year. LET ER RIP VAUGHNMAN❤️

14 months! Countless fire drills, mid week pulses or swells wrapped up with a holiday - which are “no go’s. My comp crew enduring my endless Chicken🐥 Little text tendencies..shit I care- deeply as do they …@scotttmeyer @mikereilly1 @ryansimmons1374 @eniloracmai but anywhere in town we go… “When’s the comp gonna run?” Or getting peppered by armchair comp directors….”Rivers gonna be 2/3 this weekend” in our DM’s. We have the stress of producing the City Championships! The comp window opened July of ‘24 & here we are Sept of ‘25 & finally a GOOO! 🟢 Rewind my text 💬 thread with @thechascast the Sat prior. “Stay tuned the Tropics🌴are going 🍌’s !” Monday- spoke w @tellyscopes over at @surfline & said KDub’s say system plenty strong- not optimal track tho. Chas on Tues- “Trop depresh Narda🌪️ went Cat 4 🌬️winds, there’ll be something.” We have to make the call 72hrs prior - Wed by lunch for the LG’s to get their staff in order. Chas & Surline both give me roughly the same. Fun’ish surf & building Sat. Sunday will be proper. Call is ON!! I’m fortunate to have both on speed dial. Seal Hui in full effect. Rain 🌨️pops at 2am early Sat. I’m a light sleeper- basically👂🏽rain wakes me up😳. I stay up til it’s time for set up at 5am. Rock up to Rio- breezy onshore 2ft slop in the dark. 7:30am start…Fkn stressing! Syncing the tablets for @live_heats , sound is getting dialed & at 7am we see a legit 2/3ft, 4 wave set pop on the Crabs bar! Comp kicks off on time & BANGO…. Fun rippable waves - 5ft by end of da day! Sunday is incredible- best Hurricane swell in a minute… We nailed it! Get Fakked! The fundraiser & event is our @sealbeachboardriders primary source of rev 💵. We’re self funded so the stress was real having gone 60 weeks with no event! This was our 3rd event since taking it over from the SBLG’s & we’ve hosted amazingly fun comps ‘22, ’23 & ‘24 rollover kine in ‘25. Thank you to our incredibly patient surf community, event staff & sponsors who understand the dynamics of getting Seal for 2 full 8hr days! Gonna be a hard act to follow next year.
