EPICLESIS — a satirical comedy about a priest trying to fill a God-shaped hole…with humans. Some of my soul in this one. Making personal work takes everything: time, money, sleep, sanity. Pulling together a tiny army to make a film always dents the psyche a little — but when the pieces finally click, there’s no better feeling. I wish I could afford to make narrative work more often. EPICLESIS ‘Montage’ A collection of stills from our short film. Four years ago, I started writing a short film script with my friend Jesse Loncraine about growing up in a religious environment and trying to fit into the “normal world”—especially through the lens of romantic longing. EPICLESIS is a satirical comedy about a priest looking for love in the modern world. I wanted to explore the absurd and darkly humorous aspects of this experience, as they felt true to a part of my early years. In 2021, we were preparing to shoot in Ukraine, just a few months after filming MOEDER, which had been such a great experience. But then the war broke out, and we tabled the film indefinitely. Last year, I revisited the script again and thought, “this story still resonates with me...” so we got to work…and adapted it for NYC. Thankful for an amazing team that made it happen. More soon!

WE NEED YOUR HELP AND WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT. We’ve launched a Crowdfunding Campaign for our short film EPICLESIS. This film is very close to my heart, and although it’s a darker comedy, it deals with themes (of belonging, fitting in, cultural & relational dislocation) that I’ve wrestle with as a missionary kid, and as someone who is trying to find his place in the world, yet at the same time, recognizing his inherited place in the world as something handed down, or bestowed to him in a Cosmic, Divine sense already - from birth. It’s a film about a priest looking for love - leaving his life of chosen celibacy, trying to fill a God-shaped hole with human shapes. It explores the awkwardness of giving up his spiritual identity and trading it for what the cool kids wear - an ill-fitting Adidas tracksuit, as he navigates all the pitfalls of modern dating: the apps, speed-dating, judgmental church folk etc. We’re 100% making the film - shooting next week, in NYC. We’re making it for 140K and shooting for 6 days. We’ve already shot day 1/6, and have a little teaser out already.
