Have a look at the details of this brass sideboard by @christopher__clinton . It is a masterpiece as far as craftsmanship is concerned. It looks just as polished from below as it does front on and from above. The brass front is also constructed by hand and it is actually, properly, perfect. The light effortlessly dancing across its surface is quite something to behold. If you have a special object to photograph, on a tight deadline before it is shipped off to a client, I might be your person. Image descriptions: Closeups and a full view of a sideboard constructed from dark stained wood, brass and a special non-scratch top imported from Europe. The sideboard sits on a concrete floor in front of a white wall. The brass front functions as doors with neat minimalist handles. This has been made from an array of brass pipes cut with precision to form a wavy concave surface. The legs join onto the base with a rounded finish.

“Home is a concept that is both familiar and elusive, encompassing both the material dwelling (a home) and an existential state (feeling at home). As architects, we are engaged in the imagination and construction of houses with a promise that the existential state will follow. However, we cannot assume that the foundations that we lay afford everyone the same opportunity to feel at home.” – Ceridwen Owen @oceridwen Learn more with the link in our bio. Tasmanians, A Comparison: Bruny Island and the Gaza Strip.
Same size. Two places. Two realities. In the early 19th century, the Nuenonne and other Tasmanian Aboriginal tribes were hunted, dispossessed, and murdered by sealers and settlers.
Bruny Island today is a place of peace and beauty, but its history is one of violence, loss, and dispossession for its original peoples. Gaza—roughly the same size—is enduring an ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide. It is under military control, subjected to near-total destruction through continuous aerial bombardment. Its people face catastrophic shortages of food, water, and medicine, with starvation now widespread due to the blockade and relentless attacks. If we in Australia are committed to acknowledging the injustices faced by Aboriginal people, we must also confront and speak out about what is happening in Palestine—right now, in real time. This is closer to home than you think. @tpanlutruwita @friends.of.palestine.tasmania @apan4palestine @nayriniara @taclutruwita #nakba #freepalestine #freegaza #colonialism #brunyisland #tasmania #australia #settlercolonialism #israel #palestine #westbank #tasmanianaboriginals #genocide #ethniccleansing #ceasefirenow #hobart #discovertasmania #endarmstradenow #StandWithGaza #GazaUnderAttack #StopTheGenocide #SovereigntyNeverCeded #truthtelling #solidarityacrossborders #GazaComparison #JusticeForAll #HumanRightsMatter #BreakTheSilence #EndTheOccupation

Valuable insights from the resident at @hobartwomensshelter Elsie house, after seven months of living there with her two children after being in crisis accommodation. Her reflections on daily life in Elsie demonstrate the carefully considered, trauma-informed design at work. This post-occupancy review was undertaken by Dr Ceridwen Owen (UTAS) and Samantha Donnelly (UTS) in December 2024. Our sincere gratitude to the resident of Elsie who generously offered her insights and experience with the hope that it will help inform future housing solutions for women and children facing homelessness after escaping domestic violence. Honoured to receive two awards for Finlay Street at the 2024 Tasmanian Architecture Awards @architects_tas Award for Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations and Additions) Jury citation: “This diminutive building, once dominated by the historic house of which it was once a part, now quietly commands its own place. The architects and the builder have employed great skill and craftsmanship, in the manner of a furnituremaker or boatbuilder in their attention to the small details that the residents or visitors might grasp and touch. On a low-lying and inclining block, this modest yet engaging new addition and restoration inventively incorporates elements that maximise opportunities for sunlight penetration and connection to the landscape, as well as providing a respectful nod and ongoing relationship to the neighbouring house and broader heritage precinct.” Award for Heritage Jury citation:
"This outbuilding once belonged to the property adjacent, a grand double-storey, red-brick residence in the Queen Anne style positioned commandingly on the hill. Through small sensitive moves by the architects, Finlay Street has been restored so that the layers accumulated over years are removed and only softly touched to show their original texture and provide ongoing protection."
Special thank you to: My wonderful clients, Peter and Gill for entrusting me with their special project. James and Julien from Thylacine Constructions for the exceptional work. Posted @withregram • @designtasmania Tas Makes designer profile | Christopher Clinton | Adaptive Kitchen Ensemble Christopher is a Hobart-based architect, designer and maker. Working across architecture, object design and making, he’s intrigued by everyday objects intricately woven into the spaces he designs, influencing the user’s interaction with both form and function. The Adaptive Kitchen Ensemble deliberately explores adaptive assistive design, focusing on the extension of objects in spaces, and delves into the realm of architecture for aging in place and individuals with limited mobility. See Christoper’s kitchen ensemble at the Tasmania Makes exhibition, running until 17 March 2024 at Design Tasmania. Entry is free.
