Most golfers skull flop shots because the clubhead passes the handle too much through impact. Here are 3 keys that make this shot way more reliable: 1. Open the face relative to your stance. The face can be mostly at the target, but open your stance so the club has more loft relative to your body lines. 2. Start with weight left. This helps control the low point and encourages cleaner contact. 3. Stay left in the backswing. Feel like your pressure keeps moving left as you go back. That helps move the bottom of the arc farther forward and prevents that scoopy, flippy strike Watch the full episode on @golfpass for more tips on how to hit different shots around the course. #golf #golftips #shortgame #flopshot #golfinstruction #pgatour #golfcoach #golfdrills #golfpractice #wedgegame #chriscomo

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is trying to create speed with their spine instead of their hips. Swinging with your spine can lead to back pain and inconsistency in your swing. The goal is to power the swing from the hips while keeping the spine stable and out of extreme ranges of motion. To practice this, take a PVC pipe, broomstick, or alignment rod over 6 feet long and set up to an impact bag placed slightly farther forward than the golf ball position. Now make swings trying to “whack” the bag using rotation from the hips, not by throwing your upper body or crunching your lower back. You’ll still have some side bend, but the feeling should come more from the upper back and thoracic spine, not excessive movement in the lumbar spine. Golfers obsess over being across the line or laid off at the top. The truth is great players have won with both. The issue isn’t necessarily being across the line. What typically causes problems is getting short and across with very little turn. From there, players either throw the club over the top
or shallow it so much they run out of time and get stuck underneath. That’s when you start seeing blocks, hooks, thin shots, and inconsistency. If you’re going to be across the line, make sure you’re making a full turn and giving yourself enough length and time in the swing. If you understand impact, you can start diagnosing your own golf swing. Because the golf ball only knows one thing: what the club was doing at impact. The clubface, path, speed, and strike are what determine ball flight. And all of those are being shaped by the forces and torques you’re putting into the club during the swing. Your body is simply influencing what the club does through space. That’s why understanding impact changes everything. Your lead shoulder needs to turn fully, not just move down. Here’s a simple drill to check it... Take an 8 iron and place it across your shoulders. Then set a driver on the ground about a driver-length away behind you. As you turn back, the goal is to get the shaft across your shoulders roughly parallel to the driver on the ground. From there, point the butt end of the club toward the head of the driver. Save this video for the next time you are on the range.
