L’Artiere Editions (@lartiere ) has recently released, Calling the Birds Home, an intimate portrait of love, memory, and loss by Cheryle St. Onge (@cherylestonge ). For decades, Onge lived with her mother on the same New England farm, sharing a deep and constant bond. When her mother developed vascular dementia, memory and emotion began to fade, first interrupting their long photographic collaboration, and then halting St. Onge’s practice altogether. In an attempt to counter her mother’s growing wish to die, Cheryle began making portraits again, spontaneously, with any camera at hand, searching for light in the dimness of their afternoons. The book explores St. Onge’s signature themes of environment, fragility, and human presence, intertwining portraiture, nature, and the passing of time into a poetic narrative of devotion. With every photograph, Cheryle offers a small act of resistance and love: an emotional currency against the slow erasure of memory. 🔗 Read an interview with Aline Smithson at the link in bio (@alinesmithson ).

We hosted a great event last night featuring Kristen Joy Emack, Scott & Grace Offen, and Cheryle St. Onge, with Arlette Kayafas (@gallerykayafas ) moderating. Each of these artists has had their first book published by @lartiere and each centers around women & girls. This was our first event featuring multiple artists, and it certainly elevated the conversation! Thank you to all involved and all who attended 🖤 There will be signed copies of each book available in-store and on our website shortly! 🎵 Hawk is a Mule - Andrew Marlin (@mandomarlin )

Good morning! This is @andrea.koesters with the last day of my takeover. First up I’d like to share this beautiful book - Calling the Birds Home by Cheryle St. Onge. Calling the Birds Home is a deeply personal book about staying close to someone witnessing while them change. As her mother’s memory fades, St. Onge begins making photographs of her in an instinctive and unforced way – with an intention to capture their remaining time together. A bird motif moves throughout the book in rhythms of presence and disappearance, like memory itself. What makes the work especially moving is the sense of continued connection: the act of photographing feels quite important, yet remains playful by nature. The result is a tender reflection on love, memory care, and the all the ways we remain with each other through profound change. @cherylestonge @lartiere
