Cette série d’Amy Friend confère à la magie. Fin 2025, l’artiste canadienne a publié le livre Firelight aux éditions italiennes L’Artiere. Il célébrait sa série « Dare Alla Luce », faite de clichés obtenus grâce à un processus technique extrêmement singulier. La base de tout, ce sont des photos datant des années 1920-1940 qu’Amy Friend a trouvées dans des albums de famille, en ligne ou en brocante. Elle les a ensuite perforées de petits trous, mises à contre-jour avant de les shooter à nouveau. Le développement donne des tirages baignés d’halos de lumière, à l’ambiance aussi magique, mirifique qu’évanescente ; une quinzaine d’entre eux seront exposés à la galerie In Camera jusqu’au 23 mai, courez-y.

« Le projet a commencé à travers des conversations intimes avec ma Nonna, tandis que nous regardions des photographies de famille. Elle me racontait des histoires de sa vie — des moments traversant générations et continents — mais parfois les souvenirs se brouillaient. Les noms, les lieux et les événements devenaient insaisissables, m’amenant à m’interroger sur la nature des photographies en tant qu’objets et sur les significations qu’elles portent lorsque leurs récits s’estompent. Que se passe-t-il lorsque le contexte derrière une image se perd ? Comment les photographies personnelles façonnent-elles notre compréhension du monde, à la fois individuellement et collectivement ? »

It is Family Day here in Canada. If you have read some of my posts these last few years you will know we lost many family members. I think of them all and I miss them.... But today I celebrate my mom -- who is here. She is a quiet champion ---some may raise an eyebrow to the description - quiet - What I have witnessed is strength that astounds me. I have watched her change as I too have changed over time - together - tethered... loved. This is a photo I took of her in my undergrad years... where I fell in love with photography. As many who work in the arts know...our families are often our models... I cherish this photograph.
