The Future Plate, the House of African Caribbean cuisine, join the Somerset House community of Cultural Innovators. At the forefront of innovation within the culinary industry, @the_futureplate is the UK’s largest collective of African and Caribbean chefs, all of whom are experts in luxury catering. Their high-tech kitchen in the West Wing, will be the first permanent home for the business since launching in 2021 by Julian George (@chefsignatures ) Somerset House are proud to support The Future Plate and its Resident community, nurturing creative talent from those who are underrepresented and underserved in the cultural sector.

This one is a keeper! It’s been a while since I posted and that’s because I am being very specific about which photography & filming projects I embark on. This is because I am concentrating on building @the_futureplate with an amazing team & we are working extremely hard on our mission of influencing the world palate with African & Caribbean cuisine. But then I receive a message from the amazing @editorkarenb commissioning me to do the front cover of @deliciousmag … well you guessed the rest, it’s been an honour and an absolute pleasure to work with the team at @deliciousmag in bringing this to life, brainstorming, creative meetings & the shoot itself. @lolafoodstylist You are AMAZING! Thank you @cheftomkerridge for being an absolute joy to work with. Go grab a copy from @tescofood @sainsburys and newsagents. I bought a few copies, but I guessed I’m a little bit biased. 😂😂😂

A little while ago, we had an idea to create a chefs summit that focused on African & Caribbean cuisine and the experience of black chefs and makers in the food space. It gives me great pleasure to announce that, that idea has come to life and Cuisine & Culture 2023 in partnership with @amarulauk will take place on the 11th & 12th of July at @westminster_kingsway_college This year the theme is Legacy - Proudly carrying the hopes & dreams of our culinary ancestors. It is a 2-day conference bringing together the leading Black chefs from the UK and beyond, makers of change and culture carriers who are united in the vision of putting African & Caribbean cuisine on the culinary map. We have put together a mixture of thought-provoking panel discussions, interviews, live demos, masterclasses and workshops. We hope it’s the start of something special, one that will become an annual event, inspire a generation, become a key pillar in the food space and help shape the future of African & Caribbean cuisine. It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve had my business hat on building and developing @the_futureplate with the amazing team. Feels good to be back creating this campaign for @amarulauk with @buttonprcollective Absolutely LOVE this for @william_chilila now ambassador for @amarulauk gin which we launched with them last month. A lot more creative projects in the making and looking forward to sharing them in the coming months. Here is to finding the right balance between creativity and business. 😜 #signaturemoves

Today at @the_futureplate we are launching the first session in an ongoing series of panel discussions called The Future Plate Presents: Sankofa. It’s an honour and a privilege to get to host the discussions with the vanguards of African and Caribbean food culture. To kick it off we have Mariam the founder of @ojahq then @akwasibmensa founder of @tataleandco who will take up residency at the @theafricacentre when it opens its doors next year. Next is Fola co-founder of @puffpuffministry and @damola_t co-founder of @bayabgin & @vusavodka #sharingculturethroughfood

Serving up some TASTY Friday news! I am beyond thrilled to finally be able to announce that @the_futureplate has partnered with @westminsterkingsway The UK’s leading school of hospitality & culinary arts. All six chefs from the launch are alumni and so too are some of the best chefs the UK has produced. It’s truly amazing that they will work together to inspire and develop the next crop of chefs to take African & Caribbean cuisine to higher heights. The partnership will involve guest lectures from the current crop of chefs, masterclasses from African & Caribbean restaurants and demonstrations from producers and importers to allow the students to explore the diverse range of ingredients and how versatile they are. This is the start of a long and meaningful relationship and one that will hopefully produce tomorrow’s greats in the African & Caribbean culinary scene. Happy Friday peeps!!

HELLO November! Humbled that my latest work with @tomsstory is gracing the cover of @chefpublishing and 2 further features with @jermainegc89 & @chefjasonhoward are also in the November issue. What a beautiful start to the month.

We did it!!!! After all the stress early mornings and late nights, the launch of @the_futureplate was an amazing success. It wouldn’t have been possible without some amazing people who went above and beyond to make it happen. You know who you are, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the guests, I can not find the words to express our gratitude. You came, you lit up Bingham Riverhouse, ate, danced, made new friends and showed the chefs so much love, as though they are family. Such a beautiful sight, every struggle along the way was worth it, just to see how happy and proud you were of the chefs and the initiative. @samanthatrinder & @maireadmurray8 thank you for believing in the concept and pulling out all the stops to enable the event to happen at @binghamriverhouse We couldn’t have collaborated with a better team, so much love for you guys and it’s only the beginning of a great relationship. And lastly the chefs, what else can I say, you are writing a new chapter in our history and what a beautiful story it will tell in years to come. The future will look back at what you did and applaud you for daring to think different and push the boundaries on all fronts.
