Took a little Parisian break from festivals and clubs to help OPEN A RECORD SHOP!!! Little backstory: I remember post lockdown 2020, being invited to chat with
@mattprimeur about our mutual frustrations working in the music biz, being cultural artefact hoarders and wanting to reclaim a third space to transmit and demystify audiophile and record culture in Paris. As you may know, my experience of being a music nerd in Paris as a woman has mostly been a lonely one. Being “into music” in France is still a niche thing, there’s just not a lot of us and of course there’s mostly men. Or at least back when I was in my 20s that was the case. Anyways, recordshop keepers and collectors were some of the rare ones to welcome me and support me with an open heart - no backhanded comment about whom I’ve dated in the past, no sexist comment about the fashion gigs I’d play at, no testing of my knowledge or passion for this thing… Never felt I had to prove I deserved to be there, loving music and being curious and not knowing but wanting to find more was ENOUGH. I was lucky, I’d found my niche within a niche. My wish, from that 2020 meeting onwards, was to create a hang out spot for nerds of all horizons to feel comfortable being their expansive selves, mingle, use music as a point of entry to discuss, debate, question, trade points of views and leave inspired with a mind broadened by the people they meet, the music they hear, the books they read, the zines they see and come back the next day! It’s been a dream come true to see the shop come to life with customers, curious neighbours, children, parents, the team running the shop and most of all friends conversing naturally together 🥹 No I don’t own it, I only help the team behind the scenes but it sure feels like my other home already 🧡 You’re welcome at
@hark.paris for a chat, a dig and for all your hi-fi repairs. This is step one and we’ll have more to announce soon but I’m already a very happy Chen.
Massive love sur vous
