As the founder of Isla Berlin (@islaberlin), she’s built a community-driven beauty brand that goes far beyond nails and tooth gems, hosting cultural events with brands like ASICS, Converse, Nike, The Hoxton, and Zalando. So grateful to be able to teach Ace skiing from young,but no one really talks about how hard (almost impossible) it is to take time off when you’re self-employed.This year has started stressful, so many unpaid invoices; some five-figure ones sitting unpaid for over three months, agencies too careful to push brands because of “relationships,” and daily calls with my lawyer (@hero_legal, truly recommend).The worst part is not being able to pay freelancers and small businesses on time because of this.I really wish brands and agencies cared as much about paying communities on time as they do about tapping into them.

Never thought adulthood, let alone motherhood could look like this. Solo traveling for weeks, meeting friends new and old, throwing an event on the other side of the world.
