“Most culture comes from a spiritual connection to the land, to the people, to a faith, and how do you live with a faith-based society and live with the atrocity?” – Tracie Revis Meet Tracie Revis, one of our honored Psalm for the Mismemoried panelists in Macon, Georgia. Tracie speaks on the history of Central State Hospital and the context of Indigenous culture, history, land and forced migration from Milledgeville and surrounding areas. About Tracie: Tracie Revis, a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and Yuchi, is a leading advocate for Indigenous sovereignty, cultural preservation, and environmental stewardship. She serves as the Director of Advocacy for the Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve Initiative, where she is helping lead the effort to establish Georgia’s first National Park and Preserve. In this role, she works closely with Tribal Nations, federal and state leaders, and local communities to protect sacred Muscogee homelands, preserve cultural and historic sites, and expand access to the Ocmulgee River corridor. At the heart of her work is a vision of healing and connection—between people and land, between past and present, and between generations. Tracie is committed to ensuring that Muscogee and Yuchi stories, traditions, and sacred places are honored and protected, leaving a legacy of resilience and hope for future generations. Thank you, Tracie, for contributing your wisdom to this living archive. Stay tuned for more from our special panel!

On October 22nd-24th we were honored to produce Psalm for the Mismemoried - an immersive installation, at the Douglass Theatre in Macon, GA. For three days, community members engaged with the timeline, experienced an interactive virtual reality film, and shared stories from their own experiences as well as family stories of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. We discussed how psychiatric hospitals, prisons and detention centers are all a part of the medical industrial complex and continue to harm and pathologize our communities as an extension of state control, eugenics and experimentation. Thank you to everyone who joined and supported this work. Stay tuned for more from our Psalm for the Mismemoried virtual reality immersive in Macon!

Thank you WPGA TV and @destinhowardtv for uplifting Psalm for the Mismemoried and the story of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia. In a time when our histories are intentionally being erased, it’s more important than ever to tell the stories of how the medical industrial complex has facilitated state control and violence. We’re honored to add Psalm for the Mismemoried to the cultural archive and community dialogue as we transmute one of many institutional sites of harm across the country, and rehearse new visions for community-led care. Content note: racism, ableism, state violence and institutional harm will be referenced #transformtheMIC #endeugenics #culturalmemory #film #360film #georgia #macon #milledgeville #psalmforthemismemoried #centralstatehospital

[Content note: racism, ableism, state violence and institutional harm are referenced] Audio Description: Triptych (three screens) show historical scenes from Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia. Two Black women, Future and Hattie, appear on screen. Hattie places her hand over her heart while Future beckons viewers toward them. A graveyard with small stakes appears. Future waves her arms gracefully, and steps through a rainbow-colored solar flare. Hattie meets her, and they walk off into the distance together. Cara Page’s VoiceOver says: The largest health care system in the U.S. is the prison system, which includes psychiatric institutions. The U.S. began building these institutions to remove disabled, poor, low-income, and people-of-color communities from society. This is a psalm for the mismemoried*. Those left behind in these institutions. This is a psalm for taking our ancestors home. @changingfrequencies and @breaktide are honored to invite you to join us for the Macon, Georgia installation of Psalm for the Mismemoried - October 22-24, 2025. Visit /mismemoried (link in bio) for more information and to book tickets. *Mismemoried is a new word meaning; the missed and the lost memory of ancestors when they are disappeared and taken from generations.
