Periodically I'm humbled beyond the moon and back. Recently seeing my story on geneologist Brenda Sutton Williams on the cover of Macon Magazine was sooo that. Sutton Williams uses her passion and gift to get to the bottom of family history as a means of enlightening and empowering people. She has also revealed and shared some uncomfortable community truths too that are setting the record straight about local historic people, places, and things. Read all about her in the Women's issue (April/May edition) of Macon Magazine - a page to page tribute to local females making their marks in business, education, politics, medicine, and more. Available where the publication can be bought and . #FemalePower @MaconMagazine
Who is Bernard Young? The guiding light of Southwest High School as its principal. So much so Peach County School System's gain will become Macon-Bibb's loss this fall as he elevates to the post of Assistant Superintendent of their schools. But not before seeing numerous SW grads cross the stage next month. Something he asked for and got from his soon to be employer. Read all about his time at fired up Southwest and what's ahead for him in the current edition of the Middle Georgia Informer newspaper. Available NOW at various Macon locations including Frank Johnson Recreation Center and the historic Douglass Theatre, as well as . #MGI #RealCommunityNews
My recent annual trip to Savannah for the Savannah Music Festival was filled with two glorious days music including Tank and The Bangas but this stop in Whitefield Square near downtown was sooo necessary while there. Listen why.
Thank you Tina Dennard and Adopt A Role Model. Really enjoyed interacting with the little people of L H Williams Elementary School this morning as a Career Fair vendor. Attended as the CEO of Visionary Communications- Macon and children's book author of "My Little Light". I was joined by other distinguished professionals in government, science, athletics, education, music and more. The children were curious and kind, making their rounds and leaving with multiple new adult friends and goodies. This is how you make a difference. Bravo ARM! Bravo. #AdoptARoleModel @LHW
Cedric Smith is a gem. His latest art exhibit at the Wesleyan Leadership Lab downtown reflects his importance as a local visual creator. Titled "Layers of Becoming"' the exhibit places Black historic figures in a more positive light through the change of narratives about each. Included are his take on local community icons like DSTO Moore as a reflecting seafaring fisherman, DeMarcus Beckham as himself, a knowledge seeking book reader, and Smith's self portrait of himself as legendary law man Bass Reeves. Also included is a Black jockey and wanted poster of a runaway slave. See this exhibit NOW. #ChangingBlackNarratives @WesleyanLeadershipLab
As a writer there are some stories that you REALLY are blessed to gather, process, and craft. The feature in the recently rolledout Feb/March edition of Macon Magazine seen here on food way wizard Rodney Mason of Restored Ancestral Roots, by yours truly, is one of those stories. Mason - a Louisiana native - landed in Macon in 2021 and since has transformed how we grow, consume, and think about food and foodways as a purveyor of educational and cultural events and growing spaces. Read all about his journey and local impact in the MM Food Issue or online at . Shout outs to DSTO Moore for capturing Mason's essence in some fantastic accompanying images. #FoodwayFocus @MaconMagazine
