Welcome to EP 2 of Exploring the Axis: The Oral History of @frontierrecords , as @lisaferrising cracks open the early days of Punk, leading up to the founding of her indie label, Frontier Records!
Join Lisa, @chakifunkwizard & @chrisslusarenko as we discuss Lisa’s job working at the legendary Bomp Records and Licorice Pizza stores, devouring the early L.A. punk scene, the soap opera that were Sex Pistols, Lisa writing music reviews, buying records from The Cramps, Tom Petty & Devo coming in to the record store, fake punk bands, working for The Dickies fan club, Brendan Mullen & The Masque, the grifiters in the early punk scene, feeling outside of the scene, the Slash clique, the bands lost to time like The Wild, Zola X, Jobraith, the early L.A. punk labels, The Screamers, what gave Lisa the impetus to start Frontier Records & more! Available by supporting @revolutionspermovie at Patreon.com/revolutionspermovie (127 exclusive episodes and growing every week)!
Hello everybody!
First, I want to thank everybody who ordered the record. We are so, so grateful. You are in for a treat.
Very quick update on shipping: The vinyl will go out this month, and we are awaiting confirm on the exact date. There was an unexpected blip in the test pressing process that backed things up slightly, but things are back to moving accordingly. Once we have an exact date, we’ll let you know and BONUS! Everybody who ordered a record will, for your patience, get a bonus zine that documents the production of the Chaki music video The Contract to Dance. Thanks so much for your patience, we are a teeny tiny operation and it means the world to us.
Thanks again!

For this incredible episode of A VERY OPINIONATED LOOK AT URGH A MUSIC WAR, we bring our most-requested URGH guest to the show: Jim Skafish of @skafish !!!!
We discuss Jim’s beginnings as a child prodigy as well as his time in White Lightin’ with Busta Jones, how the PTSD of Jim’s youth helped create the foundations for the Skafish band, the Shanana riot caused by the band, @cheaptrickrick Rick Nielsen of @cheaptrick protecting the band from an angry mob in Rockford, rehearsing every day (even when you have the mumps), the tragic lyrical content of Skafish, being a sober band, the incredible story of Sid Vicious fighting at Skafish’s NYC show which led to Skafish being the first American band signed to I.R.S. Records, the La Mere Vipere venue in Chicago, fake orgies on stage, finding your audience, the birth of punk in Chicago and so much more! You can hear Chapter 52 of this series plus get all the other exclusive @revolutionspermovie episodes by supporting it at Patreon.com/revolutionspermovie Support indie!!!
@chakifunkwizard is an electro-funk artist blasting out raw electro-funk, basement synth freakouts, and basslines that hit like a brick through a windshield. Performing as a one-man alien funk unit, his live show sits somewhere between a dance party, performance art, and a full-on cosmic ritual.
His latest release, “From L.A. to the Bay” on High Occulture Records, is a career-spanning 12" packed with essential cuts and three brand-new tracks aimed straight at DA FUTURE. It is all killer, no filler – punk-funk, synth burners, and deep grooves. “All of this material is appearing on 12" vinyl for the first time,” notes Chaki. “And every track has been newly remastered by mastering legend Shawn Hatfield at Audible Oddities, which gave everything new life and extra THUMP.”
The album also features guitar work from Steve Bartek of Oingo Boingo and was pressed by Third Man Records, delivering a loud, full-bodied sound built for DJs, collectors, and anyone who takes their funk seriously. “Plus the digital version has my new track ‘F*CK ICE’ featuring El Vez and Black Bibles!” adds Chaki. “This one’s for everyone who’s supported me over the years – the funkateers and the Frankensteins.”
