The End and Beginning series explores new possibilities of narrativization through painting. Beginning with the fundamental structure of conventional narrative—where fragmentary events unfold linearly and are interpreted through causality—the artist rearranges and repositions images, events, and the structures that constitute narrative itself. Chae Roh’s paintings unfold an “in-between world” on the canvas, where fiction and reality overlap rather than forming a linear narrative. Mythic images—forests, horses, hybrid beings, and wings—are arranged simultaneously at points where personal memory and experience intersect, inviting viewers to construct their own narratives.
