NYS Guide #9819 reporting for duty!
Getting my SPI cert was half the battle, the other half was the NY State guide license. I'm now fully online, and will have more info about the agency I'm guiding for soon!
I've been supported by so many people along the way, but *extra* special shout-out to @athe_torri_cervantes - who helped me avoid all of the processing snags and pitfalls that they had encountered, and in general have been amazing. They shaved weeks, if not months, off of my processing time.

Did you know? LNT originally stood for "Leave No Tricam"
Early clean climbing pioneers recognized that abandoned tricams threatened to turn trad crags into sport climbing areas. LNT was necessary to preserve the character of the Gunks!
While this is not at all true, I enjoyed a wonderful day out with @this.isthe.place cleaning up some lines of their fixed gear while we had truly divine belay spots.

Most winters, I just have let climbing muscles hibernate. I exit the fall in my peak, and rebuild in the spring.
This time around, I knew I needed to come at the season strong for my rock guide course. Bouldered a ton at @mustangsbouldering and kept up cardio with cross-country skiing. Did the things I knew would produce results.
And then today - just kinda floated up MF. It felt excellent, and I'm really excited to have this be where my season starts.

Dark Shadows to the Summit of Mescalito!
Twice, after climbing Cat in the Hat, I've tried to get to the top of Mescalito. It's such a distinct peak, in a park full of amazing canyons and ridges. Both those times I turned around, because the path was too unclear and uncertain.
This trip, @veronicasaltzman and I took a different path - charging up ten pitches of Dark Shadows (at around 30 minutes a pitch?) - then did the bonus pitches to the summit. It was wild, and wonderful, and enjoyable, and just generally amazing.
The descent was... complicated, but we pulled it off without any hitches. Certainly not one I'd want to be doing in the dark.
Overall, 10/10 exactly the kind of adventure I come to Red Rocks for.

Ski Mountaineering is totally a thing that I am very serious about and also good at, and the Gunks is the ideal place to do it!
...or none of those things are true, and we just had a blast doing a two-sport day, cross-country skiing to our climbs while the conditions were in an absolute goldilocks zone.
