In college, I blew every dollar I had on a new camera and couldnât wait to use it. So I dragged my roommates into a full-on snowstorm, found a slope with a pitch under 30 degrees, and made them lap it while I figured out my new toy.

Climbing season kicked off a little sideways this year. First day back on the cliff, I totally lost my head, and took a gear whip on a 5.9. It was a solid reminder that whatâs going on off the wall doesnât stay there. You carry it with you, and it shows up in your climbing.
I really want this to be fun again, so for now, it feels right to come back to the basics and reconnect with what made this whole thing enjoyable in the first place. #tradisrad

Isaac turned 30 and stacked the deck with an all-time crew for a weekend of soul turns and throwing fins out at the Big Wave.
The stoke was palpable, and the flows were boosted. I couldnât think of a better way to celebrate someone who brings out the best in everyone around him.

Charlie, @charlestombstone , leading Kaaterskill Falls and doing his best to manage the circus we accidentally joined. Without thinking about it, we hit it on a holiday weekend with a steady stream of hikers wandering through the base of the falls, gawking up at us while we tried our best not to kick ice down on their heads. At one point someone asked me to stop mid-belay so I could snap a family photo. Hard to blame them though, we probably looked pretty ridiculous monkeying around on a frozen waterfall.
I first laid eyes on this thing the summer I moved to New York, long before Iâd ever swung an ice tool. It felt a little surreal topping out on it six years later.

A close friend and I were talking about ego the other day, ego in relationships, in life, in climbing.
Not tying self-worth to grades, sends or big objectives is a constant. Some seasons I nail it, barely leaving enough room in the pack for all the stoke and gratitude for my community. Other months I disappear into my own head, comparing myself to people Iâve never met on social media feeling like an imposter that needs to be better, try harder, be someone else.
Truth is none of it really matters. No one gives a shit what you climb as long as you make it home safe. This post is just a little reminder for myself.
