DCWP’s Paid Care Worker Convening was a huge success! Caring for our most vulnerable New Yorkers is vital work. Thank you Delmi and Marsha for your hard work not just as caregivers, but as advocates for all workers.

At last week's Brooklyn Org Changemakers Ball, we uplifted the leaders in our Brooklyn Org 25 who are making housing justice real across the borough. Because when Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn, everyone can have a safe, stable place to call home. These incredible organizations are reshaping what housing security and belonging can look like in every neighborhood. Watch how these Brooklynites are building a home for all, and join us in supporting this critical work.

We are proud to celebrate these champions at our Brooklyn Org Changemakers Ball on October 29 through The Brooklyn Org 25, our annual recognition of the borough’s dedicated nonprofit leaders. We’re building solidarity and sanctuary, one conversation at a time. This is what community support looks like in Brooklyn and Queens. This past weekend we came together to discuss: • How domestic employers can help protect the workers in their homes • Ways we can ALL show up for our immigrant neighbors right now. • Knowing Your Rights with ICE Huge thank you to @emmastorchfood and @freedomtoreadqueens for hosting us, and @cga_npc for being incredible partners in this work! Together, we’re stronger. Together, we’re building #SanctuaryHomes and communities. 🫶 #ICEOutOfNYC #CommunityDefense [Image descriptions of a carousel of photos from two workshops. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection @hellodcwp , especially Commissioner Mayuga and the incredible team behind her, for their unwavering support of domestic workers and hard-working community members. For the past two months we were reached out more than 350 workers across NYC giving information about their rights. Your leadership and commitment help ensure that the workers who care for our children, clean our homes, and support our families are seen, valued, and protected. 💙💛🩷 The work you do uplifts the dignity of labor and strengthens the power of organizing. We are honored to stand beside you in the fight for fairness and respect for all. Thank you for believing in our work and standing with domestic workers in Carroll Gardens and beyond!✊🏽 #ThankYouDCWP #WorkerPower #DomesticWorkers #EssentialNotExpendable #CarrollGardens #DignityAtWork #CommissionerMayuga #NYCWorkers #OrganizeForJustice #cgna

STATEMENT FROM TEN MEMBERS OF THE BROOKLYN MARINE TERMINAL TASK FORCE ON TODAY’S VOTE POSTPONEMENT We have participated in the BMT Task Force in good faith, hoping that our engagement would shape a forward-thinking and equitable vision for our waterfront. Our goal from the beginning has been to get to a “yes,” and we remain committed to that outcome. Unfortunately, to-date many of our concerns with the Economic Development Corporation’s (EDC’s) proposal for the site have gone unaddressed. Today, we were prepared to cast our votes against the plan. However, the final vote has now been postponed. We intend to work with the community and our colleagues to develop a clear set of changes we will need to move forward come this autumn. The community’s trust must be rebuilt. The EDC’s current plan lacks meaningful solutions to serious issues—transportation impacts, water and sewer and infrastructure capacity, disruption to existing businesses, and the perils of building in a flood zone. The absence of transportation and sewer studies to assess the proposal’s impacts and the lack of data to support the feasibility of the project is alarming. The proposal does not fulfill the salient goal of transforming the BMT into “a harbor of the future” with manufacturing jobs and robust maritime opportunities. We believe in a future of a working waterfront that centers people, sustainability, and justice. Our communities deserve better—and we will keep fighting until they get it. Signed, (in alphabetical order by last name) Council Member Alexa Avilés Eddie Bautista, Executive Director, NYC-Environmental Justice Alliance Ben Fuller-Googins, Executive Director, Carroll Gardens Association Hank Guttman Council Member Shahana Hanif Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes Susan Povich, Principal Officer, Red Hook Business Alliance Borough President Antonio Reynoso Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon Jim Tampakis, Founder, Brooklyn Marine Spares International
