New York says it supports immigrant communities—but right now, our state is still creating pathways for ICE collaboration. Through contracts with local jails. Through data sharing. Through harmful loopholes that leave immigrant communities vulnerable to detention and deportation. The New York for All Act would stop local agencies from collaborating with ICE. The Dignity Not Detention Act would end the use of local jails for immigrant detention. At 1pm tomorrow, (and every Tuesday), take 2 minutes to call your representatives and urge them to pass DND. New op-ed on @cityandstateny : The Climate Law puts dollars into Black and Latino communities Thank you to @mmitaynes for publishing and defending our climate law, which was designed to support and protect frontline Black and Brown communities. “Come talk to a grandmother who has to make the choice between warming her prewar apartment and filling up her grocery cart. Come talk to a kid with asthma who can’t play outside because of diesel trucks idling on the street. Come talk to the young vocational school graduates who are ready and waiting to work the 123,000 NYC jobs that the Climate Law would create over the next decade. These New Yorkers are dreaming of a better future – a future the Climate Law is ready to deliver, so long as our leaders commit to nurturing it, not cutting it down before it has the chance to bloom.”

With 25 BMT port proposals just released, the community needs time to review them before the public comment period ends on 3/31. I sent a letter with Assemblymember @mmitaynes & Council Members @shahanafrombk @alexaforcouncil urging @nycedc & the City to extend the comment period. Read @bkeagle coverage. Yesterday in Albany, we stood with immigrants, advocates, and colleagues to demand dignity, safety, and justice for all New Yorkers. For too long, our communities have lived in fear—fear of family separation, fear of detention, fear of simply going about their daily lives. That’s why we are fighting to pass the New York for All Act and the Dignity Not Detention Act. These bills are about making clear that New York will not be complicit in a cruel and broken federal immigration system. They are about protecting our neighbors, strengthening our communities, and affirming that everyone—regardless of status—deserves to live with dignity. Our immigrant communities are the backbone of this state. We will not stop fighting until our laws reflect that truth. Photo Credit: Alexa Wilkinson @framed.unrest

🚨We’re rallying tomorrow, Sunday, March 22 at noon, to call on the Governor and legislature to pass New York for All and Dignity Not Detention. 🚨 The legislature is currently negotiating an immigration-related package. Albany loves to water things down, carve people out, and under-deliver. If you want our state to pass strong protections for immigrants, this is an incredibly important moment to turn out and make sure they understand we mean New York for ALL and NO profiting off the misery caused by immigrant detention. See you in the streets tomorrow! Link to RSVP is in our bio!

Happy #PiDay! 🥧 Today we’re celebrating the PIE Package — Protect, Invest, and Expand Food Security — because everyone deserves a *slice* of food security in New York. As federal budget cuts threaten food assistance and affordability continues to rise, New York must step up to ensure families can put food on the table. The PIE Package does exactly that: 🛡 Protect: Safeguard benefits families rely on. This includes transitioning to more secure EBT cards and creating a SNAP & Cash Assistance Fraud Victims Compensation Fund (A3578/S403) so New Yorkers whose benefits are stolen through EBT skimming can be reimbursed. 🌱 Invest: Strengthen programs that fight hunger and support local communities by funding initiatives like the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP), Double Up Food Bucks, and the Hunger Prevention & Nutrition Assistance Program - ensuring families, farmers, and small businesses all benefit. 📈 Expand: Increase access to food assistance by raising the minimum SNAP benefit to $100 and extending support to thousands of newly eligible New Yorkers, including refugees, asylees, and mixed-status households with children. At a time when grocery prices are rising and families are feeling the strain, investing in nutrition is not a luxury—it’s a cost-saving, community-stabilizing necessity that supports public health, children’s futures, and local economies. This #PiDay, let’s pass the PIE Package and make sure every New Yorker gets their fair slice. 🥧

Great meeting last week with patients and staff from the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone and the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center during the Community Health Care Association of New York State Advocacy Day. These community health centers provide comprehensive care to thousands of medically underserved patients, including many families in my district. I’m grateful to hear directly from the patients and frontline workers who make this care possible every day. Their message was clear: Community Health Centers need sustained financial and legislative support so they can continue delivering the essential services our communities rely on. I’ll keep fighting to ensure these vital resources remain available to the New Yorkers who need them most. 🏥💙
