The Walgreens pharmacy at 120 Court St. and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights will be closing on June 4, according to a release put out by management. A Walgreens spokesperson told the Brooklyn Eagle on Tuesday that the landlord had terminated the lease. Plans have been filed with the city’s Department of Buildings for a new, 14 story mixed-use tower with 75 dwelling units at the address. This is the second (and final) Walgreens to close in the neighborhood. The first, at the corner of Montague and Court streets, shut down in March 2025. The space remains vacant. It’s a mystery. The Volo Museum near Chicago, home to a replica of the black Pontiac Trans Am from the hit 1980s TV show “Knight Rider,” recently received a $50 traffic ticket for doing 36 mph in a 25 mph zone in Brooklyn on April 22. But museum officials say the vehicle hasn’t left its exhibit — halfway across the country — in years. The ticket came complete with traffic camera photos showing a black Trans Am with the California license plate KNIGHT, the same plate as the car on the show and the novelty one on the museum’s unregistered car. 🔗Want to solve the mystery? Police officers rescued a despondent woman from a narrow ledge of a luxury high-rise building in Downtown Brooklyn on Thursday, and released gripping body-cam footage of the compassionate save. In the video, the crying woman can be seen clinging to the ledge surrounding an exterior deck on the 30th floor of Avalon Willoughby Square, 214 Duffield St. — one leg dangling, hair blowing in the wind. “Tell my mom and dad I love them,” she begged the officers.  “I’m here now,” said a member of NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit. “We’re going to do this together.” 🔗Read more at the LINK IN BIO. Neighbors out for a sunny stroll in Brooklyn Heights on a recent Sunday afternoon were startled to find themselves in the middle of a dramatic arrest of an alleged car thief. Seconds after a white 2026 Hyundai SUV took a right turn from Henry Street onto Orange Street, several police cars boxed it in, bringing it to a stop right next to Plymouth Church. Police officers burst from their vehicles with their guns drawn, and passersby began to run. Within seconds, the officers pulled the driver out, pushed him to the ground and handcuffed him, before putting him in the back of one of the patrol cars and driving off. “I was in shock when I saw all that,” Heights resident James LaRosa said. “I lived here my whole life, and I’ve never seen something like that.” 🔗 Read more at the LINK IN BIO. A woman and her cat were rescued from the East River underneath the Manhattan Bridge last week, according to police, who released body camera footage on Tuesday. Officers responded at around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday to the northern tip of Brooklyn Bridge Park, where a small beach gives visitors access to the water. A cop entered the water with a life preserver, tethered to a rope being held by other officers and Parks and Fire department personnel on land, and helped bring the woman back to shore. Parks workers, at the same time, went to save the cat in the water. The woman and her cat are expected to recover. It was unclear at press time how they ended up in the water. 🔗Read more at the LINK IN BIO. Photos: NYPD #Cats #Pets #NYPD #BrooklynNews #LocalNews

Roxy, a beloved 15-year-old eclectus parrot from Brooklyn Heights, was recently rescued by the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center following intensive specialized treatment.  Tests found masses that were chronic infections within an immune cell cluster. One vet said Roxy’s chances of survival were around 20%. But Dr. Daniel Spector at AMC successfully removed the larger mass on the left side of the neck, and the smaller mass on the right was treated with daily medication.  Today, she is thriving in great health, and will be honored at the AMC’s 18th Annual Living Legends Luncheon on May 13, along with other remarkable recovery cases. 🔗Read more at the LINK IN BIO. After 124 years and five generations of family ownership, Caputo’s Bake Shop on Court Street abruptly closed last week.   “It is with immense sadness that I am writing to tell you that the flame in our oven has been lit for the last time,” a letter posted in the store’s window by current owner James Caputo reads. The store was famous for its lard bread and black-and-white cookies. Caputo did not offer a reason for the closure, but some speculate it may have been forced to shutter due to a loss of the area’s historic Italian consumer base. 🔗Read more at the LINK IN BIO. #CarrollGardens #BrooklynFood #Brooklyn #LocalNews #BrooklynBusiness Photos: Mary Frost/Brooklyn Eagle

Grace Gray Faison, one of the iconic matrons of Brooklyn Heights, passed away on April 26 at the age of 101, and with her a host of memories of an earlier era.  A sixth-generation Brooklyn Heights resident — a member of the Heights Casino squash and social club, a leader at Plymouth Church, a supporter of nonprofits — Faison’s life blended seamlessly into the social fabric of the neighborhood. To the end, she projected the very image of white gloves and pearls — and later acknowledged using this image to achieve behind-the-scenes works of charity and social justice.  🔗Read more about Faison’s extraordinary life at the LINK IN BIO.
