Yall sold out the first Saltwater Stories in a week so we decided to give yall a whole series for the summer Hosted inside Voyce, a Black-owned restaurant led by two-time James Beard Award nominee Chef Keith Rhodes (also featured on Top Chef )the series blends upscale Coastal Carolina cuisine with immersive public history storytelling. The first chapter of the series centers on Shell Island, the once-thriving Black beach resort community of Wrightsville Beach that became a symbol of freedom, entrepreneurship, joy, and cultural gathering during segregation before much of its history faded from mainstream public narrative. Because of the intentionally intimate nature of the experience, seating is limited for each event to preserve the emotional and interactive atmosphere that has made the series so impactful. The next 3 Shell Island editions of the experience are: Sunday May 24, 2026 Sunday June 28, 2026 Sunday July 19, 2026 The series will conclude with a special Seabreeze edition on Thursday July 30, 2026, featuring storytelling by Sister Elise, a direct descendant of the Freeman family, whose family still owns beachfront property connected to the historic Seabreeze community to this day. The Seabreeze experience will highlight the legacy of one of North Carolina’s most important Black beach communities , a place built by formerly enslaved families and Black entrepreneurs that became a refuge for generations seeking freedom, recreation, and ownership along the coast. the expansion of the Saltwater Stories series is also meant to formally introduce the public to WilmingtoNColor’s new year-round Black beach history tour experiences focused on both Shell Island and Seabreeze. Guests can now book immersive group storytelling tours exploring: Shell Island and the Black history of Wrightsville Beach Seabreeze, Freeman Beach, and the Black beach history of Carolina Beach at

It’s not often you find people who share the same passion for history as you, but these two brothers @ceocednc @lgburna do without a doubt. I truly appreciate the collaboration, the fellowship, and the shared commitment to telling our stories with care. I respect the hell out of what you all do when it comes to collecting, preserving, and amplifying our history. This work matters, and I’m grateful to be connected with folks who understand that. 📍Charlotte, North Carolina 🎟️ @ncolorfestivals Follow their accounts ⬇️ @thehiddenhistoryofhbcus & @wilmingtoncolor #history #historybeforeus #culture #travelhistory

What we’re building with WilmingtoNColor isn’t just a tour, it’s an educational tool, a research-backed experience, and a platform for real community impact. At University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Annual Community Brunch & Research Symposium, students presented findings on the impact of our tours, and the results were clear: Participants didn’t just learn history They retained it. They engaged with it. They left with a deeper understanding of race, place, and community, and a stronger desire to take action. That’s not marketing. That’s measured impact. From analyzing civic engagement to testing game-based learning tools like our History Bingo experience, this work is now being studied, validated, and expanded in academic spaces. Which raises an important question for schools, universities, and organizations: 👉 If your goal is to educate, engage, and create lasting impact, why rely on passive learning? We offer: • 90-minute immersive, curriculum-aligned experiences • Scalable programming for schools, universities, and corporate teams • On-site presentations and large group accommodations • Proven outcomes tied to engagement, retention, and reflection We’re actively looking to partner with: • Universities & K-12 schools • Corporate teams & leadership programs • Foundations and sponsors investing in education, equity, and community engagement Because this isn’t just about telling history. It’s about transforming how people understand it, and what they do with it after. If you’re ready to bring an experience like this to your students, team, or community, let’s talk.

Honored to have been a presenter at the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Black Church Crawl 🙏🏾 To stand in these sacred spaces and share stories rooted in the culture, resilience, and legacy of Southeastern North Carolina is something I don’t take lightly. Thank you to everyone who came out, leaned in, and experienced it with us. And a special thank you to everyone behind the scenes who made this powerful day possible. Looking forward to continuing this journey and speaking at more events that bring people closer to the heritage, history, and culture of our region. #WilmingtoNColor #GullahGeechee #BlackHistory #CulturalHeritage #ItsNotJustATourItsATimeMachine

Honored to be able to connect NC’s rich heritage in real time this weekend during the Durham @ncolorfestivals @wilmingtoncolor brought the story of Wilmington’s heritage and Coup of 1898. While the @haytiheritagecenter told the story of Durham’s rich heritage and black Wall Street. Two cities. Two legacies. One powerful truth. This might’ve been the FIRST time these histories were experienced together like this. So we aren’t just telling history, we were MAKING it. To everyone in Durham who showed up, leaned in, asked questions, and felt this experience with us THANK YOU. To every partner, storyteller, and supporter who helped bring this to life THANK YOU …this is just the beginning. 📸: @mykayla.photos #ItsNotJustATourItsATimeMachine #WilmingtoNColor #DurhamNC #BlackHistory BlackWallStreet Hayti 1898Coup CulturalTourism Storytelling DoTheWork CedSaid

Not all impact gets recognized in real time. Yesterday, I was honored to be named a 2026 Carnegie Community Partner by UNC Wilmington through the work of WilmingtoNColor and the work I started but was never recognized for with Port City United. But if I’m being honest this moment also represents work that wasn’t always seen, celebrated, or fully valued in real time. This moment really represents work that was done without applause. Impact that wasn’t always acknowledged. Efforts that were at times, politically overlooked but still made a difference. If you stay committed long enough, the impact will speak for itself, whether people give it credit or not. From building relationships in the community with Support the port, to helping create pathways through Port City United, to now scaling that work through WilmingtoNColor heritage tours I’m grateful for the partnerships, the opportunities to contribute, and the ability to now carry that work forward through WilmingtoNColor continuing to connect education, history, and community in ways that create both understanding and economic impact. The mission never changed even when the recognition didn’t match the work. And now, it’s catching up. Grateful for the acknowledgment. But even more focused on continuing to build something that lasts. This was never about credit, or about titles or moments, it’s about legacy. It’s about making sure the work outlives you
