Double Bind, my new performance format, premieres this week in Munich.
Double Bind pairs two speakers from different professional fields around an overlapping theme. A firefighter and a banker on risk. A psychotherapist and a cryptographer on trust. An archaeologist and a novelist on narrative. A moderator asks them identical questions. While one speaker responds, the other wears headphones and can’t hear. The testimonies unfold in parallel, and only the audience has access to both.
Behind the speakers, a live transcription and co-occurrence analysis visualises each speaker’s vocabulary, showing in real time where their accounts converge, diverge, or bypass each other entirely. The audience can follow the analytics on their phones during the performance. Afterwards, the headphones come off and the speakers take questions from the room.
