Sung Tieu and Henrike Naumann - German Pavilion, Venice Biennale, 2026
This year, the pavilion’s exterior has been transformed into a Plattenbau housing block by Sung Tieu, who is also part in the new presentation at the Boros Collection.
„Human Dignity Shall Be Inviolable“ covers the façade of the German Pavilion with more than three million mosaic tiles. The work presents a 1:1-scale image of the ruin of a socialist prefab apartment building on Gehrenseestraße in East Berlin. The building was once home to Sung Tieu and part of one of the GDR’s largest residential complexes for foreign contract workers. It is currently being demolished. Additional works by both artists are shown in the pavilion’s side wings.
