âMy Dear Elyseâ began as a simple writing prompt - âCanât ___ like I used toâ - but quickly turned into something far more personal. It became a love letter about growing older together, about how life and technology change us, and how love somehow stays the same.
This song pairs wry glances at modern life with an old-soul heart â that bittersweet space between what we lose and what really matters. Itâs become one of our most requested songs at shows and a central piece of our upcoming album Love & Technology.
The photo (from a video) here was taken by the talented @aaronproctor at the Cobb Estate in Altadena during the pandemic â a rare year when rain made everything lush and green, so different from how it looks now.
âMy Dear Elyseâ arrives today! If it moves you, please share it, add/recommend it to your favorite playlist, or send it to a friend you think would connect with it. We canât wait for you to hear it. đżđż

One year ago today I left work early to be with our mom in case she needed help during the coming windstorm. I dozed on the couch for a bit while the windchimes gave the performance of their lives.
When the lights went out, we lit candles. It seems silly now that I didnât want to use the good ones, thinking I would reserve the tapers we made at Knottâs when we were kids. This picture of the candles we chose is the last picture I have of the inside of the house.
When we started to smell smoke and see flames on the hills, we decided to evacuate. I grabbed what was portable/valuable/hard to replace, but it wasnât really enough. We had so much history and so many meaningful itemsâlike my grandmotherâs 40+ years of genealogy research, including original documents. Everything we left behind is gone.
I still canât really wrap my head and heart around the sheer loss of it all, and how my hometown and community will never be the same. How so many plans and dreams and so much history are all just ash. I donât think thereâs much sense to be made.
What I do know is that we literally could not have made it without the kindness from our friends and so very many caring strangers. Thank you all for supporting us through such a hard year. It means so much more than we can ever express đ¤

âBuy Now!â is liveâjust in time for Black Friday and holiday shopping. Co-written with our friend @alanroyscott (Celine Dion, Cyndi Lauper, Luther Vandross), our second single playfully skewers how we use shopping to fill the gaps left by modern life, with upbeat music and lyrics full of multiple meanings. You can call it a Black Friday anthem đŚ đ¸ âď¸ đŚ 𼳠đ đĽąđď¸
Weâve been waiting to share this one for some time now, co-written in tranquil nature at @idyllwildsongfest retreat and recorded near Americaâs longest freeway at L.A.âs Precarious Rock Studios. We hope it becomes your new theme song for the season.
Weâd love to know what your favorite line isâComment your fav below! đ

We wrote âHow Much Is Enoughâ in the last days of December 2019. Our friend Jen was letting us stay in her cabin in Idyllwild, and in between planning for the following year and writing music, weâd take crunchy walks and watch the sun set over the mountains failing to hide their burn scars under patches of snow (like a comb over, but a snowmb-over?). We had some momentum after 2 European tours and a completed EP ready to release, and thought 2020 would bring even bigger thingsâwhich it kind of did, but not in the ways we were hoping.
The snow over charred earth, the burnt pines still holding onto their cones, and the way manzanita persevere through constant adversity had us thinking a lot about life and growth, death and rebirth, and how weâre all connected. The song that came out of that, âHow Much Is Enough,â examines the consequences of focusing only on short term greed and personal gainsâthe kind of behavior that would burn down our house and community 5 years later, and will continue to do even worse in the future as long as itâs left unchecked.
This song and this album mean a lot to us, and weâre glad to have you with us on the journey. Canât wait to share more đ
đ¨ Todayâs the day! Our new single âHow Much Is Enough?â is out now exclusively on Bandcamp â the first glimpse from our upcoming album Love & Technology. Weâre beyond excited and proud to finally share this with you.
This oneâs for anyone feeling overwhelmed by the unapologetic greed and corruption thatâs tearing apart the only home weâve all got.
Listen on @bandcamp , buy (if youâre so inclined), and share it with your friends! Your support means everything to us. Stay tuned â itâll hit your favorite streaming platforms soon. Link to Bandcamp in bio!
