Weeks posts
It’s been a couple weeks since Ken Ewart left us and I’ve been processing this loss. It feels important to take a moment to say goodbye to my friend and mentor. I met Ken many years ago when I was at a party. I was alone and nervous and only knew a couple people. Someone said “You do props? You gotta meet my friend, Ken!” We became friends quickly, and Ken became one of my first champions. He opened many doors for me, and helped me get some of my first professional jobs in theater. I’ve been reflecting on the things I learned from Ken. It’s overwhelming because so so much of what I know in my bones came from him. Not only did he teach me props skills like upholstering and mold making, puppetry and sewing, but he taught me skills for life. He helped me look at the details, notice the small things. He taught me why that matters, why taking care with your work matters. He taught me to ask for what I need and to be generous with my help. Sometimes I wonder who I’d be if I hadn’t met Ken. When someone leaves, it breaks your heart. But I think I’m doing the thing Ken would have wanted. Pass the parcel. Take it, feel it, and pass it on. I don’t have many pictures to share, only these two, which are special to me. Thanksgiving with Ken and a band of misfit boys, and this portrait that our friend Thomas made of him. This little painting has been above my desk for years and it reminds me to be grateful for Ken and the gifts he gave me. Sending love to you wherever you are. Thank you for believing in me and being a friend. ❤️

Last night we opened The Monsters in NYC at Manhattan Theatre Club. I’m still so grateful and genuinely thrilled. Sending a show from a regional theater to NYC is no easy task, but we did it, and it’s beautiful. Congratulations! Happy Opening to The Good Thief at @tworivertheater starring @thechristopherfitzgerald and directed by Justin Waldman! It was fun getting to do what I love most - transforming a space to tell a story. For this project we turned a small library into a hole-in-the-wall pub. I wish I had some before and after photos! Shout out to the prop artisans who made this happen: Liv Reyes Ford Rowe Daisy Torralba @prop.rockz Catch this crazy tale before it’s over!

I hear we’re doing 2016? Well, here’s this little baby who had no idea what was coming. 1. Painting wine barrels for Treasure Island at Book-It Repertory Theatre. 2. Seeing @randall_mouse smash it as Marcy Park in Spelling Bee. 3. Cast to play a bartender in a commercial. I’d never actually bartended at that point! 🙈 4. Swimming with otters at @nurturedbynatureotters for my 30th birthday. 5, 6, 7. Returning to the cult classic musical “Are You There God, it’s Me, Karen Carpenter” at the Bumbershoot music festival! I played Moose and Norman Fishbein. Probably the peak in my acting career. 😂😂😂 8. Starry eyed, seeing a show at a theater I’d later get to work at. 9. Out to dinner before an opening night.

Happy 10 Year Reunion to @bemorechillmusical ! What a week of concerts - so much joy and theatre kid energy. Sometimes I can’t believe I get to do this for my job! Here’s a lobby display we put together for the Anniversary, with some OG props, costumes, playbills, and merch. Also a little school spirit set decoration onstage. And of course, Michael’s slushy! All with the help of prop artisans @sebastienmarcc and @prop.rockz 🙏🙏🙏

Throwback to one of my favorite film shoots ever! We had so much fun making all the prop food and table settings. If I remember correctly, the napkin rings are actually plumbing fittings from goodwill. 😅 If you need some adult time this Xmas, sneak away and watch The Jinkx and DeLa Holiday Special!
