Pavilion for Music and Meditation. Napa, CA. Completed 2022. This was my first project as design lead / PM at @aidlindarlingdesign , started way back in 2018. The pavilion is located on a forested site in the Mayacamas mountains, adjacent to a natural pond. A sculptural roof captures rainwater in dramatic fashion, directing it to the pond, and shelters a simple array of indoor and outdoor spaces. Working closely with an acoustic consultant (who also built custom speakers for the project), the 900 sf enclosed music listening space achieves impeccable acoustic performance while maintaining a visual connection to the landscape. We are grateful to be the recent recipients of national design awards at the 2025 Chicago Athenaeum, SARA, and a SFAIA Honor Award. Photos by the multitalented @adamrousephoto , who in keeping with the theme, brought his guitar to the photo shoot!

Saloua Raouda Choucair Foundation We had the extraordinary fortune to receive a private tour of the collection from Saloua Choucair’s daughter, Hala Schoukair, who created and manages the Foundation. It is located on a remote hillside site in the mountains about an hour east of Beirut, in a building and gardens designed by the Lebanese architect Karim Bekdache. It was a remarkably personal, educational and immersive experience, unlike any museum or gallery I have visited previously. We will be making this pilgrimage again! @salouaraoudachoucair @_slimfactory @tate #lebanon #art #landscape #sculpture #garden #catsanddogs

Kamari Carter at Microscope Gallery, NYC “Carter’s installation “Frozen Flag” consists of an actual American flag frozen inside a large 2 x 3 ft. ice block, housed within a tall, commercial ice freezer, and visible through its glass door. “ Carter says of the work: “(The American Flag) is frozen solid within a block of ice trapped within a moment of time, unmoving, unwaving. To this end, only conditions of change can alter or better the state of the flag, and as such the state of the country.” #kamaricarter #vexillary #america #democracy #onice #nyc #art @microscope_gallery

Withholding judgement until it opens… #zumthor #LA #lacma #architecture #nicecurves … but it’s hard not to wonder about the bridge over Wilshire as an urban gesture

Tadao Ando ANDO MUSEM Naoshima, Japan 2013 The museum is a remarkable sculptural concrete installation built within a traditional wood house in the tiny seaside town of Honmura, on Naoshima Island. Here’s an excerpt of Ando’s description of the project: “My aim was to create a space that has a rich sense of depth despite its small size, where oppositional elements such as the past and present, wood and concrete, and light and dark clash intensely as they are superimposed against each other…. Similarly to my earlier projects in Naoshima in which I imagined the buildings to merge into the topography and environment, the ANDO MUSEUM is also an “invisible building” in which the new architectural elements are implanted within the existent minka and the earth. When a building cannot be seen, the quality of its space becomes the only matter of importance. I will be pleased if visitors are able to perceive within this modest building the essence of what I believe to be architecture.” #ando #again #can’tgetenough #concrete #architecture #naoshima #japan
