Come by to see Richard Whittaker’s installation in the Roll Up Project. Whittaker’s work as an arts writer and publisher is only one aspect of his creative output - he has been experimenting in visual arts for many years too. This installation brings together his photography, works on paper, paintings, and sculptures. #richardwhittaker #art #oakland #rollupproject

Richard Whittaker’s fine art practice has paralleled a long career as a writer, interviewer, and publisher. His magazines - “The Secret Alameda” and “works & conversations” - are a lasting testament to his skill as a lively and thoughtful conversation partner, and to his interest in deeply understanding people and their driving forces. His art photography takes a similar approach, leading the viewer into locations and letting them linger in spaces that are both mundane and extraordinary. #richardwhittaker #art #oakland #rollupproject

See one of Ward Schumaker’s clay babies in the Roll Up project window on Harrison Street. Schumaker started working in ceramics in 2022, and the resulting sculptures speak to his deep understanding of texture, color, and historical references. The clay baby is also represented in a poster that hangs in the window, blown up to a larger scale. Come see this installation in person through February 25th! @schumakerward #art #oakland #rollupproject #sculpture
