When is the last time you really played?
Thank you @inthedarkcircusarts for the space to make shapes on shapes. No goals. No prescribed tricks, just play.
As a kid in the 80s I would always see commercials claiming food was ājust like grandma used to make.ā It was usually an Italian dish that I liked but in no way connected to the non-aesthetic, deeply flavored soups and vegetables my Lola was making me every night for dinner. But itās exactly those dishes I crave when I need comfort and soul nourishment. And as I get older, I feel like I get closer to recreating the smells and flavors she used to fill our house with.
I present to you chicken bone broth with carrots and cabbage. And whenever I feel like itās not quite right, I know the answer is a touch of fish sauce āmeasuredā in the large cooking spoon and a healthy amount of ginger. The OG version is over white rice but today itās over multigrain rice not everything I inherited from the ancestors is something I want to hold on to.
Kain na tayo.
Taking this class after an hour of pole was not the best decision Iāve ever made. But I got my top bar invert for the first time ever so it was all worth it. Loved this Saturday morning training sesh at @peaceinmovement . #aerialarts #aerialistsover40ā¤ļø #lyra
Will Wheaton and I are still very much in a relationship. We havenāt bought bread since he came into our home. Today for dinner we had turkey burgers on Will Wheaton buns and Will Wheaton zeppoles for dessert.
Last week was very tough. One of those weeks where every day seems to bring some sort of heavy event. I made this breakfast to try to pull myself together and start this week right. Fingers crossed it works because man, adulting is hard.
Thank you to @officialcapac for inviting @napawf and @stopaapihate to brief the caucus on the current state of anti-AAPI hate. Looking forward to partnering with you to keep our communities safe and bring our lived experiences into policy conversations.
Today is the fifth anniversary of the devastating Atlanta spa shootings. Iām in Atlanta with @twiggles242 spending time with local organizations and community leaders, remembering the lives lost and standing with the families and communities who are still carrying the weight of this senseless violence.
For many of us in the AAPI community, Atlanta was a moment of both deep grief and painful recognition. This tragedy did not happen in a vacuum. It exposed the dangerous intersection of racism, misogyny and harmful stereotypes that AAPI women continue to live with.
Five years later, that fear has only grown. According to recent data, over half of AAPI adults reported experiencing some hate due to their race, ethnicity, or nationality. The rhetoric targeting immigrants, Asian Americans, and other marginalized communities has become even more violent and divisive.
As a mother of two girls and the executive director of @napawf , I will keep fighting so that our daughters can grow up in a world where they feel safe. Today, we honor those whose lives, tomorrow weāll continue the work of uplifting AAPI womenās voices and building collective power so our communities can thrive.
Care work is work. And right now, our policies pretend it isnāt.
In this Working Women Wednesday, Maya Rupert and Christina Baal-Owens of National Asian Pacific American Womenās Forum talk about the reality facing millions of women: being part of the sandwich generation ā caring for children while also caring for aging parents.
Today I turned Will Wheaton into heart shaped maple donuts for my kids after school snack. Well only two of them turned out heart shaped, the rest proofed into blob, looking things. In true social media form I will show you one of the two that worked out.
The hubby said they taste like profiteroles. Despite recently complaining to their cousins that I only feed them Will Wheaton, the kids said they would eat these every day.
My oldest daughter is a big fan of @sen_alsobrooks . During the 2024 elections she asked to knock on doors for her and VP Harris but got shy in the end so instead we made cards and gave cookies to staff and volunteers. When she found out I was going to the Senatorās office yesterday to talk about reproductive justice, she made this card for her. Powerful things can happen when little Black and brown girls see themselves in the people that represent them. Thank you Senator for being a woman my daughter can look up to and for standing up for our communities.
