"I think the lift scene is the one I’m most proud of. I had an epiphany while visiting a real coal mine for research - I actually had to step out of the lift and write the lighting plan for the scene on the spot. We had a spinning set background and a lot of lighting effects, so seeing the plan come to life on the day, working exactly as I had imagined, was incredibly rewarding."
British Cinematographer takes you behind the scenes to explore the 10 films screened at the NFTS Fiction Graduate Showcase, including interviews with the cinematographers, stills and shots taken during filming for each incredible production.
On our website, Catharina Scarpellini runs through her work on Every Time I See a Cock I Go Funny, which explores real LGBTQ+ history that’s often overlooked - and was one of the films showcased.

2025, what a year!!
From awards and festivals, to a lot of not very glamorous days on set.
Shooting on 35mm & 16mm, premiering work at LFF, finishing my time at the NFTS, and most importantly, collaborating with incredibly talented people and telling stories I truly believe in.
That’s a wrap on 2025. That’s a wrap on NFTS.
Grateful for everyone who shared even a small part of this journey with me.
On to 2026; can’t wait to see what’s next.
Wishing a wonderful new year to all of us 🤍
