Now 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦 has officially concluded its last weekend, we are pleased to look back at some installation views of the exhibition. We want to thank everyone that was involved in making this project come to life and to everyone that visited in the last months! On Tuesday, March 24th, at 6 p.m. CASTOR and celador are delighted to welcome mountaincutters. During this evening, the hybrid identity, artist collective working in Brussels, will reflect on their work in ‘Becoming Otherwise’, a duo exhibition with Juli Bierich at IKA in collaboration with Kunsthal Mechelen and curated by CASTOR. The screening of their new video work featuring a poem titled 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘲𝘶’𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘶𝘯 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶 𝘭’𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦 (2026), created especially for the exhibition, will act as a starting point for the conversation. the conversation will be in French, moderated by Yann Chateigné Tytelman and Daniel De Decker. CASTOR was welcomed by celador for a writing and development residency in August 2025. It was during this period that they developed their organisation and their first project, ‘Becoming Otherwise’, which opened on the 24th of January, 2026. CASTOR invites you to a decentralised public programme at The Green Corridor on March 15th, starting at 14h. This public programme is part of 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦, an exhibition by Juli Bierich and mountaincutters in collaboration with Kunsthal Mechelen. At The Green Corridor, we present to you 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘐𝘐𝘐 - 𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘣𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨: an afternoon spent together delving further into Juli Bierich’s work within the context of 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦. At 14h, please join us for a soap workshop led by Bierich. Together, we will shape and work with soap, gradually developing a collective piece that will take form by the end of the day. Afterwards, Bierich revisits her performance 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘐𝘐 (2026) and 𝘚𝘰𝘢𝘱 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢 (2026), which were performed during the exhibition’s opening. 𝘍𝘭𝘶𝘪𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦 (2026) glass, copper variable dimensions [mountaincutters’] assemblages are composed of steel, glass, copper, clay, and organic residues. These materials are assembled in ways that foreground their physical behaviour: weight-bearing, bending, oxidising, leaking, or resting against one another without a clear hierarchy. […] A central work within this constellation is 𝘍𝘭𝘶𝘪𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦 (2026), a glass sculptural installation referencing an elongated umbilical cord. The cord introduces a biological register into mountaincutters’ material vocabulary, situating questions of dependence and connection. NL [mountaincutters’] assemblages bestaan uit staal, glas, koper, klei en organische restmaterialen. Deze materialen worden samengebracht op een manier die hun fysieke eigenschappen benadrukt: dragen, buigen, oxideren, lekken of tegen elkaar aan rusten zonder duidelijke hiërarchie. EN Bierich considers how bodies relate to one another under conditions that are structured rather than chosen: moments of being together in waiting rooms, vehicles, corridors, or other transitional spaces where intimacy is produced through proximity rather than familiarity. […] The action is quiet, repetitive, and deliberate—an act of maintenance that places one practice in the care of another. Bierich performed 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘐𝘐 (2026) during the opening night of 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦. The boundaries between the performance and the works presented by mountaincutters slowly faded, showing the mutual trust that has been integral to this project.
