The cat is out of the proverbial bag! Yesterday at the SMPTE + Progress Report Roundtable we announced the completion of the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council’s Standard Evaluation Material II (StEM2), an exciting short film entitled The Mission that is designed to tax and evaluate theatrical projection (traditional lamp and laser), emissive screens, professional monitors, consumer monitors and image processing software. I had the honor to direct, produce and write this project and work closely with the StEM2 Working Group consisting of ASC cinematographers, image scientists, colorists, technologists and manufacturers to plan the best components to include in this material to push the visual envelope. The short film will be provided in a number of deliverable specifications for free via a simple license for any and all that need to use it. The Mission was photographed by Christopher Probst, ASC
