Dừa ("coconut" in Vietnamese) A young woman attempts to chop a coconut for the first time, in hopes that the refreshing treat will lift her ailing father’s spirits. Written & directed by me (+produced and edited) Thank you to @reelasian for taking a chance on me, someone who has never ever considered herself an "artist". I had been wanting for a long time to find a way onto a film set somehow, and I'm so grateful that my first happened to be my own, and that the film was about my #1 fave memory of all time. Obviously, this film means a lot to me, and I thank everyone for treating it with care. In all honesty, I knew my first film would be less than perfect, so I wanted to enjoy this process to its fullest and just have fun with the cast and crew I ended up going with. I'm not sure how I got so lucky. Each person below is kind, patient, gracious, and has a fantastic sense of humour. Many laughs and coconuts were had on what I've been told was a very chill set. I can't thank you enough. I wish we were still there, but also, all of your hard work paid off, and I think you'll be happy with how Dừa turned out! Hi friends! After 2 years, I’ve made Dừa public on my personal YouTube channel for anyone who’d like to watch it (link in bio). It was a surreal experience, bringing this special memory of my dad to the screen. Thank you once again to everyone who helped make it happen. I will always be very proud of what we were able to accomplish together that summer. It was painstaking for sure, but the most fun time. I’m (clearly) not sure when I’ll make my next film, but in the meantime, I hope that Dừa resonates with you in some way :’)

Sigh, took me a while to post this because I didn't want to accept that the festival was over for reel.. Highly recommend trying to do that thing you've always wanted to do (if you can). Just know your sleep schedule will be ruined because you'll be too HAPPY THANK YOU again to my cast, crew, and everyone else who contributed to Dừa, my family, and my friends (old and new). I love zooming into that audience photo to see each person who was able to make it to the premiere. If you watched my film, I would love feedback, especially if you hated it 🤭 Thank you to the kind people at @reelasian for the support, our sweetest Unsung Voices 12 cohort for the memories, and every artist I talked to this year.
