Back in February, when I was in Milan for fashion week, I had the ultimate pleasure of popping down to Florence to tour the private Gucci archives.
Palazzo Settimani was once Tom Ford’s Gucci showroom, and when it formally opened as a space to house the archive in 2021, Alessandro Michele called it the “inner sanctum from where one sets out for Gucci’s holy lands.”
While I was officially at the archive to discover Gucci’s rich silk heritage, it was quite a privilege to tour the entire space, see original bags from Gucci’s beginning, and to encounter the archivist who recounted all the best stories from the ‘20s to today.

Our favorite bags of the spring season were shown wide open on the runways—unsnapped, unzipped, agape—and we couldn’t help but imagine all the goodies that normally don’t see the light of day that could in fact finally peek out.
It also reminded me of my twenties as a fashion assistant, running around New York with my first Prada bag (a black bowling bag with gold hardware) dangling open carelessly, pins and clamps and god knows what other tools of the trade tumbling out. I love the personalities you both dreamed up, from our Dior party planner to our Miu Miu composer!

I’ve always been intrigued by Caroline Kennedy, maybe it’s the shared name. While much of the ‘American Love Story’ chat has been about CBK, I am personally excited to see @gracejanegummer bring one of the Kennedy dynasty’s fascinating figures to life.
