Carmen Electro (
@carmenelectro ) stopped by the office to snap photos with her new vinyl release, “Viviane” on
@seven.berlin ’s VA compilation last year (Hinterhaus shares a HQ with SEVEN) so we took this opportunity to talk to her about her life, work, and passions.
The Finnish, Berlin-based vinyl DJ, producer, and founder of
@kujerecords has been in Berlin for over ten years and still loves it, but she’s clear-eyed about the scene. “Women don’t get the same kinds of gigs men get. There’s still this idea that women aren’t as good as men. That’s it. Everyone sees it. It’s real.”
She tells us how the post-pandemic diversity push tipped into tokenism, then reversed. “The structures haven’t changed.”
But Carmen Electro remains focused—on vinyl, her new productions, KUJE Records, and her deepening spiritual practice. In this interview, we talk about vinyl, the evolving state of club culture, and what she wants to ask Buddhist monks.
Hinterhaus tells behind-the-scenes stories of people who make music happen.
