Since January, Diana Wyenn, Carla Ching and Joy Gregory have been leading and facilitating devising sessions and story circles with the ensemble for our next project, I Am An American (via Los Angeles). “I Am an American (via Los Angeles)“ - What is it to be living in the United States of America today? What are the challenges of participating in a democracy that was built without many of us in mind? Performed by an ensemble whose identities and perspectives reflect the diversity of Los Angeles, this production illuminates the lives of a cross section of Angelenos today. Weaving together autobiographical accounts, song, and spectacle, I Am an American (via Los Angeles) is an intimate, honest, and searing look at being in relationship with ideas of America, conceived and directed by Diana Wyenn, and devised with LA-based Ammunition Theatre Company.

A huge thank you to @nationalnewplaynetwork and the super human @emmaylai , @nannnpn and @annegmorgan and the NNPN crew and board for a wonderful new play festival and reminding us of the power of theater and community. Even as arts funding is under attack, they are still making theater pipelines and partnerships happen. Check out new plays by @pat.the.carroll@phaedrasays@andrewrosendorf@aplaywrightsremorse and Stephen Brown. And thanks to @lilytungcrystal who directed beautiful perfomances from this lovely cast. KT Shorb also informed me my friend Nandita Shenoy already wrote a play called Rage Play so I’m gonna have to come up with new name for this play. Oops. So tired but happy after this shit show of a year to be with folks still trying to change hearts and minds and lift each other up.
A very very quick trip with a very bad electric car but did get to see a handful of old friends and family. And forgot to take pictures. But there was freezing cold, Korean spa cuisine, the Highline, a random lunch waiting two hours for the bad car, stellar Szechwan food on Christmas Eve at @breezehexu , afternoon tea at @crosbykitchen , Korean vegan lunch at @hangawi , crazy spicy dry pot at @malaproject and then waiting at @pdtnyc and then giving up after a bad corn dog. A magic show. And a crazy drive to upstate NY for Christmas Day where the tire kept deflating and we were almost out of charge but we somehow got there only an hour and a half late. It was…a white Christmas. If we missed you this time, apologies and we will find you next time. NY, you are a charming ex boyfriend.
