Doocot Rising / March of the Wyrd with @settstudios at @jupiter.artland | August 2025
1/2 ~ sound on 🔊
(After some much-needed autumnal rest) some documentation of a very special happening from the summer...
March of the Wyrd was Sett Studios’ costumed folkloric processional performance created for this year’s @jupiterrising_fest@edartfest , offering a new iteration of oor much-loved annual procession doon Leith Walk 🪇
‘Doocot Rising’ is a sound composition and installation by OOR_Scintilla, made specifically for Jupiter Artland’s 17th century dovecot and this one-off event. Featuring dove warbles, a Breton cider song played on viol de gamba and reworked song elements from our original Foik Flaw procession soundtrack, it welcomed visitors into the often unseen interior of the historic dovecot throughout the evening and provided a sonic backdrop to Sett’s installation of wyrd processional remains - props, puppets and costumes 🐲📯🧿🎏
We had both stepped into Jupiter’s dovecot before, but couldn’t have predicted just how magical it would feel to creatively occupy this space ourselves. A very moving experience, and a privilege, to be able to work with such a beautifully preserved and historic dovecot - and to animate this space together with our brilliant Sett community 🪐
These images and footage are from sound testing & the final post-procession installation...
Mostly spent a lot of time spaced out by the resonance and feeling our obsessions with stone and birds and playing with things in nooks being satisfied... 🛖🕊️🪨
Huge thanks to EAF + Jupiter for their support. And to the brilliant Abi Lewis @i.am.abi + Aimée McCallum @camerawhore_xd for helping with 📸

P o d | A visual and sonic exploration of seeds in nature and imagination 🫘 6 September - 31 October 2025 🧺 Halliwell's House Museum & Gallery, Selkirk
Open Tues-Sat 11am-4pm
An exhibition exploring the natural and imaginative world of seeds, presenting works from four artists each captivated by traces, transience and macro worlds.
From the immaterial seed of an idea or transformations of windborne and waterborne life cycles to the physicality of the pod and pollination of seeds, Pod is a collection of work exploring seeds as both forms and processes sparking reflection around fertility, incubation, growth and sustainability – expressed through a range of visual and sonic approaches to materials.

Taking inspiration from the historic context and qualities of Halliwell’s House, materials of metal, sound, canvas, straw, stitch, plants, print and photography have been worked with on differing scales. Sculpted textiles, silver jewellery pieces, sonic diagrams, tableaux photographs and gatherings of plants inspired by patterns in nature all sit within an atmosphere of aeolian sounds, paying homage to seed as a universal symbol that resonates across life and cultures past and present.

🔊 here is a first wee taster! [tap for sound]
'As The Spirits’ is a short film by Georgia Holman made in collaboration with Maria Wrang-Rasmussen, Louisa Love & Clive McLachlan Powell. Exploring spirits, communing with life beyond the veil, death and grief, the work asks what is living? What is haunting? and how do we hold hope? Exploring a dual state of pain and pleasure the work invites the viewer to slip outside of their body in order to commune with ‘the figures’ - obscured light sources that form personifications of the emotions of shame, desire, rage and hope. As territories become unrecognisable, the non-human takes on a life of its own. Grief comes in waves, paroxysmal attacks leaving the body stunned and turned inwards. Falling through the pupil, we search for connection beyond our physical form. We use divination to disturb linear time.
We love
We hold dear
We cannot let go

Friday 2nd May at @embassygallery ‘As the spirits’ WIP sharing in collaboration with @oor_scintilla@louisarlove@capybara33@maria.wr_art with mentoring from @belladonnapaloma
A film about grief, divination, searching for spirits, personal faith, desire, pain. Personal trips, what to do when you are at the end, believing in magic, believing in something, having to believe in something, holding faith, losing ur mind & looking for love.
It’s been a real gift to get to collaborate with such talented artists and to be afforded the time to make work. It’s a gift to share its first draft in my favourite basement.
7-9pm, please come join xx

we can’t quite express how great Thursday’s ~ sold out ~ gig was ⚡🪇
It was such a pleasure to share this intimate evening of sonic swimming nestled in our favourite treasure trove of @settlementprojects with the awesome @ablenoise and @cowboy.builder . The three of us together in this space felt like such a fitting combination, bonded by a love of folky drones and melodies, slightly off-kilter sounds and lo-fi junk shop community spirit, along with an equally invested crowd. We’re so humbled by the love and support of all who came along ✨
As OOR_Scintilla we are always fundamentally two great friends who bond deeply over a love and fascination with the intimacy of sound, listening and improvising. We could just play and play together all day...every performance is an exploratory exercise in many delicate, finely balanced elements as well as in finding how we invite an audience into this dynamic..
In this sense we don’t perform a lot, but each time we do, something else in our process, our synchronicity, our friendship and bandship is found and learnt and refined and flowed. This felt like our most meaningful performance to date…feeling excited for more in the future!
Shout out to the brilliant @ablenoise for whom we have much fondness and whose debut album ‘High Tide’ (currently touring) is now out via @worldofechomusic
A huge thank you to @___px4m___ for including us in this and creating such a super atmosphere together with @fibanshee@settlementprojects . Thankye also to our documentarians @i.am.abi@rehreh5000
We'll be sharing full recordings soon.

it's well and truly back to Auld Reekie life for us now after oor wonderful interdisciplinary residency @hospitalfield . But clinging to memories of the Angus coast, blooming garden, delicious veggie food, sublime architecture, and overall generosity of the slower, communal way of being. The rare opportunity for sustained focus and immersive working~exploring~living~thinking together was hugely generative...and we spent it with the most brilliant, fascinating group of artist folk - all of us sharing, expanding and connecting deeply on our various overlapping obsessions ~ sound, salt, water, energy, industry, birds, music, phytography, community building, hauntology, heritage, folklore, storytelling...

our current interdisciplinary residency @hospitalfield is focused around the completion of a new collection of audio compositions interpreting the archives and history of Edinburgh’s Settlement movement.
Leith Walk’s @settlementprojects is custodian of an extensive and important archive of social, artistic and musical activity that began in 1905 at Edinburgh University, aiming to enhance welfare, education and the provision of resources in disadvantaged communities of Edinburgh.
We’ve been gradually sifting through the records of this activity over the past 18+ months..
..and generating our own archive of sound material in response - allowing the present-day creative community spirit of @settstudios and @settlementprojects to be a lens for highlighting the rich, impactful work of the Settlement movement.
................
Situating ourselves and our archival research in the immersive context of Hospitalfield is proving such a fertile process for making this work...
the nurturing flow of everyday communal living and working experiences ~ cooking, food sharing, gardening, song, creative practice ~ all combine with the incredible corporeal presence of the building and its long heritage as a refuge and independent art school, to become material that conjures many connections with the Settlement history.

walks, talks, slow gazing and grazing, endless squeaky corridor roaming, nook and book scouring, statue staring, breathtaking portrait pondering, pipe and bell tingling, ferns and monkey tries, ancient string strumming, bedroom and garden critters, food sharing, group fire-building and song...we are 3 days in to our two-week residency @hospitalfield and it has been the most beautiful, connective whirlwind of a time...more soon on what we're working on 🎶🚪🏺🌿

Mighty putting this programme together with Louisa we've remixed some of our tracks and selected favourite soonds and music from @omnempathy , Lizzie Higgins & René Zosso and a specially mixed recording of an aeolian performance in 2013 from the Landscape Quartet's Bennett Hogg & Sabine Vogel.

really good crack through in Glasgow my good pal Olivia Furey asked me to join in her sound performance and stage mayhem for Tectonics Festival 2021 with Lee Paget. Just being myself midst the uproar playing rattling bowls to distract demons in the guttering, playing loud recordings of hoose beasties and bowing keckering sounds in the hope a passing coypu will stray in. Soonds straight out of Roslin trying to live up to it’s visitors from various zones - Knights Templar, Batman, hermits, gargoyles and a whole hod load of delirious masonry - hooch!
