After a crazy day at the shop with @thatkevinsmith and @malcolm.ingram two years ago, the idea was floated for a Canadian Comic Book Men, based on the day to day life at CaptCan Comics. Lots of meetings, discussions - and finally, two 12hr days with a full crew filming at the shop directed by Malcolm. This Sizzle Reel was put together - so far, it hasn’t gone anywhere - but who knows what the future holds. We had to keep this under wraps, but we have permission to share it now, and we couldn’t be more excited. This was such a fun once in a lifetime experience, and we are beyond thankful for all of the hard work involved from SO many people. Alright, I teased these earlier & now that the days done, it’s time to share. Here are a few of my favourites! My absolute favourite will get its own post later 😉 I am thrilled to share these beautiful books with the world! These books have been safely stored in a personal collection for decades. Today I had the thrilling experience of pulling these from their old bags & prepping them for next steps. There are some great Golden Age books from this collection that will be sold raw on our website in the near future, however all of these pictured will be graded before being listed for sale. Check out the grades! The Cap JR & Master 21/35 will all beat the Promise copies. Stunning! There is lots more to come! These books come from a remarkable personal collection, a friend of the store, and a pioneer in the Canadian comic industry. It is truly an honour to bring them to market! As these books make their way into our website, we will share more of the history that comes with them. For now, I have taken an excerpt from Johns Obituary (below). I have had countless conversations with Toronto area collectors who fondly remember Dragon Lady over the last few years as we have assisted in selling their leftover inventory - but more on that later! John Biernat (1941-2023) In 1978, John, a high school teacher, founded Dragon Lady Comics, a Toronto institution that endured until 2012. In recognition of his efforts to preserve classic comic strip art, Milton Caniff called John the "keeper of the flame." Today was a lot of fun! The great Ken Lashley was in store signing our Exclusive Absolute Batman 20. Thanks to all that stopped in and grabbed a signed copy! I didn’t take as many pictures as I meant to, but it was great chatting comics with him while he was signing all those pre sales. (Heading to hold boxes soon) I learned what his first published Marvel work was and as we had a copy in stock so we had to have him sign it as well. Do you know what it was?
