Another successful classroom visit by Mike Billy Sr., bringing a canoe and paddles and being ready answer questions. Whether about the racing canoe…or the Titanic. They are always bringing great questions. Mike can be booked for class and school visits, or sometimes he can host them too. #CoastSalish #canoe #education
Doubles, jumping in with your ride or die. Tag who’s paddling in your canoe this year. And shoutout to @warparty for another epic track we’re using here.
So beautiful to see #snawnawas put a new canoe on the water on Sunday. Our own Mike Billy Sr spent almost 4 months, 3 days a week training a new group of canoe carvers. Together they built this gorgeous 6 man cedar strip racing canoe and are nearly complete with 2 single dugouts. The new carvers have created opportunity in their community to introduce new paddlers to the sport and we are excited to see where this journey takes them. The skies gave the paddlers a gentle rain and it felt like a good opportunity to share this epic @warparty track with the video. #indigenous #canoe #culture
This is the final month to experience táywilh | snəxʷəɬ — featuring the remarkable canoe created by 7th generation carver, Mike Billy Sr.
The exhibit explores canoe culture, craftsmanship, and the deep connections between land, water, and community.
⏳ On view at the Vancouver Maritime Museum until the end of March. Plan your visit before it’s gone!

Last week Canoe Cultures held our AGM in North Vancouver’s Shipyards district. The society is served by a dynamic group of directors who are passionate about the mandate and well positioned to support the amazing future plans that we have. We’ll be excited to share all the amazing things that 2026 will bring.
We are very proud to support the amazing directorial debut of @ceebills14 and the story of the Terry Lee Canoe Club in her film Ts’isem Kw’as Ta:y (Raised by the Canoe.
We’re grateful to @i.r.evan for both recording the incredible soundtrack at The Back End with Keegan and Kelsey Charlie Sr., and for mixing the film and trailer. And to Keegan & Kelsey Sr for stopping through Vancouver to record after performing at a sunrise ceremony. That was a long day for you both and greatly appreciated
And of course thanks to the participants and volunteers who did the heavy lifting and gave up their time to make this film happen.

A thank you to @museumofvan for access today to shoot an episode of Mike Billy’s @storyhive project today with his guest Glen. Glen is a Squamish elder who paddled with the North Vancouver Canoe Club in the 1960s and has amazing stories to share. Also a special thanks to our friends at @vanmaritime for the support to set this up. We work with great friends and partners and that’s how these opportunities are possible.
