Arts and culture institutions big and small are experiencing financial hardship. The Museum of Vancouver is no different.â
â
Last year, a perfect storm of factors contributed to a significant deficit at MOVâa nine month partial closure due to HVAC upgrades, the lowest levels of provincial funding weâve seen in more than a decade, and an unpredictable tourism landscape.â
â
As a cultural institution that hasnât received an increase in operational funding in more than two decades, how do we cut costs without laying off members of our dedicated, award-winning team? To find savings in an already lean organization, MOV employees have entered into Employment and Social Development Canadaâs Work-Sharing Programâreducing hours and wages by 20% for the first half of 2026.â
â
Thatâs why weâre asking youâMOV lovers, fans, and friendsâto become a sustainable source of funding for the Museum. Our goal is to get just 26 people to donate $26 a month, by May 26, 2026. This modest amount would help MOV generate $8,112 in revenue per year.â
â
This humble number would mean a lot to the Museum. It is the equivalent of:â
â
338 adult admissions; orâ
29 school field trips; orâ
5 rental events in the Joyce Walley.â
â
The Museum of Vancouverâs staff work tirelessly to attract visitors, school groups, and rental clients. Our spaces are often used for weddings and other life celebrations. Our exhibitions reflect Vancouverâs culture and heritage back to the cityâs residents and to visitors from around the world. And our educational programs are well researched, aligning with the BC curriculum so kids can learn our local history. Knowing you support these endeavours on an ongoing basis goes a long way to making sure the Museum of Vancouver is sustainably funded.â
â
Sign up to become one of our 26 $26 a month donors via CanadaHelps in the link in bio.â
â
In the coming weeks, weâll share more about the Museumsâ upcoming exhibitions, programs and why sustainable funding from donors like you is so valuable.

The final day to see the Living with Long COVID exhibition will be May 27, 2026!â
â
The exhibition invites visitors into the often-invisible world of those living with the life-altering effects of a COVID-19 infection. Forty-six participants from across Canada contributed photographs and short reflections that candidly reveal moments of pain, joy, fatigue, resilience and everyday adaptations. If you're unable to visit in person, there is a virtual tour and lookbook available on our website (see link in bio).â
â
Soon after Living with Long COVID comes down, a new exhibition will take its place. Stay tuned for details!
Everyone loves a field trip! But the MOV needs your help to make sure they happen!â
â
The kids in our programs learn all sorts of history! They even get to role-play as archaeologists, excavating Egyptian artifacts and building a pyramid (like the kids featured here from the Pre-maternelle Pomme dâApi Preschool (@prematernellepommedapi )! The goal is to spark curiosity about history and culture while having fun. â
â
Programs are led by a mighty team of just three full time staff and a small auxiliary team. But working 20% fewer hoursâwhich weâve had to cut to reduce expensesâhas been a challenge.â
â
Thatâs why the Museum needs your help! By becoming a sustainable source of funding for the Museum you will ensure that kids keep coming on field trips to the MOV. â

The Book:
With sharp wit and insightful prose, Mildred C. Poplar reveals the inner landscapes of a dedicated group of people advocating for the rights of Indigenous Peoples in British Columbia, through personal, political, social, and spiritual anecdotes. Part memoir and part chronicle, this first-hand historical account tells the true story of the political struggles and legal actions of the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) to protect Aboriginal Title, Rights and Treaties during the Patriation of the Canadian Constitution between 1978 and 1989. From a childhood in Northern Yukon, to a memorable job interview in Prince George, to demonstrations on Parliament Hill under police scrutiny, this book underscores the humanity and strength of the activists who have fought for the inherent rights of Indigenous Peoples.
